Does anyone else know the airplane was actually invented in Luckenbach, Texas?

Must have been a joint project of all the inhabitants of Luckenbach.

No, I didn't know that. I always thought it was the Wright brothers who invented the airplane in North Carolina or Ohio or something, but the design of an airplane goes back to the days of Da Vinci when there was no such thing as Texas.

Nope. Just one Texan forty years before the Wright Brothers.

Wasn't he the one that crashed into a chicken coop injuring himself?

Yep! He had lots of witnesses but once he hit the chicken coop and got hurt, he didn't want to take pictures. Photographs were more of "big deal" in 1870 and he didn't have much money.

I'd never heard about this in particular, but it does seem like there is often a difference between 'the first person to do something', 'the first person to be widely recognized for having done something', and the 'the first person to supply tangible evidence that they did something'.

Oh, and then there is 'the first person to be widely recognized in your culture for having done something'.

She actually lives in Arlington but has a small house on the lake. It is my favorite place to be when I go down to visit her. Hopefully I will get there this summer.

Did ya know that the HAMBURGER was invented in Athens, Texas?

Awwwwwwwwwwwww it is true ............... as well as the capital for Black-eyed peas..........

The hamburger had its beginning on Athens' interesting courthouse square in the l880s when Fletcher Davis, who owned a downtown cafe, invented the sandwich. The delicacy was so popular that in l904 a group of Athens businessmen raised enough money to send the inventor to the St. Louis World's Fair, where the hamburger was introduced to the world.

For many years, the growing, processing, canning and eating of black-eyed peas was a major part of life in Athens--so much so that Athens became the black-eyed pea capitol of the world, eventually spawning an annual jamboree each July.
