I guess it depends a lot on what age you prefer. I'm 43 & prefer most men between 35-45. A few exceptions on the upper side of age. Below 35 I'm just really not interested in. If he's a mature looking 35 YO I can sort of get by with my age! Maybe others won't notice that I'm older!

As long as a person is of legal consent, there are no "rules" for dating relative to age.

I am 44 and date 29-35 year olds. Like any other human being on the planet, some are mature; some are not. Just use common sense and watch for red flags and deal breakers.

basically, it depends on the individuals involved and what they can tolerate.
i read on wikipedia that the general rule for it to be socially acceptable is the "half + seven" rule. you take the older person and divide their age by two then add seven to it. if the younger person is older than the calculated number then it's ok to date them in the eyes of society. if they're younger, well who cares what society says anyway.
for example, i'm 36. so, half my age is 18. add 7 to that makes 25. that is the lower boundary of who i should date as far as society is concerned. and personally, anyone around that age or younger usually isn't in the same place mentally as i am so that's a pretty good number for me.

Its a personal issue of what fits someones 'standards' and lifestyle. If a 37 year old who was without wife or kids and partied five days a week were to be interested in a 23 year old who did the same,, I wouldnt find it odd,,as they would be 'compatible'.

For my lifestyle and standards,, someone in their twenties would have too much life left to experience to be a good match for me. I am responsible for a household with children, I have to work, I have to look after their needs, I have a very unselfish life. I would need someone who had experienced enough of lifes 'fun' to match that sense of sacrifice and responsibility BALANCED with all the 'youthful' fun. Someone who had matured enough to put the responsibilities first. Something they usually arent teaching men and women in 'college' where being youthful and partying are more of the priorities.
