When I was young I would eat Vienna Sausage on fishing and camping trips. As I became an adult and learned what was in them I decided that I really didn't need to be eating stuff like that; as least not on a regular basis. During Hurricane Ike some of the MREs given to me contained Vienna Sausage and I ate them like everyone else. They didn't taste bad but had an "odd" texture. Does anyone else eat them?

Vienna Sausage are little wieners that come in a can. They used to be made from organ meat and weird parts like lymph nodes. Now the cans say "mechanically separated chicken, pork, and beef". They taste pretty much the same as the old weird animal parts kind but really don't have much in the way of flavor.

I never got used to Vegamite but I am sure I would eventually get used to it. It smelled like sweaty socks.

And BTW, we used to eat cajun blood sausage when I was a kid which was a dark sausage make mostly of blood, pork liver and some rice. It was called Boudin. Now boudin is mostly rice with a little pork and pork liver added for flavor with little to match the original dark flavorful dish.

A lot of places nearby are having crawfish specials. I taught a newcomer last week how to suck the head of it's juices before eating the tail. Is sucking crawfish heads weird in your area? It certainly is not weird around here!

Nope, not round here.. (Southern Louisiana). I was doing it on Friday... bigsmile

My buddie's Dad owns a crawfish farm, and he brought home about 60 lbs of them, and we cooked them, and shucked them all. Between 4 adults, and 1 kid, we finished off about 20 lbs of them..
(For those that don't know, 20 lbs of shelled crawfish works out to be about 5 lbs cleaned.)

Meh, I'm rather more than fussy about the head I suck in "my area"... shades

Have always thought it strange that folks eat snails!?

My daughter began telling me that she wanted octopus when she was 2!

I thought I'd show her, took her to WFs ... got the freshest ... She devoured it and begged for more ... surprised

scared ... Now, she is begging for snails ... ill

Hon, I'm a food snob ...

I had a restaurant and bakery and sprout farm ...

Waffles from a box do not pass my lips, can't get next to 'em ... ill

Hate the ingredients and they taste like cardboard ...

BUT ... I do love also my eggs on waffles from scratch ...

We watched animals open and eat crabs and lobsters out in the ocean???

I grew up eating Maryland Blue crabs which are so much better than the Maine crab, now I live in Maine, in the town that is the lobster capital of the world in fact, Maine lobster is the best! They really do scream when you put them in the pot! It is gross!!! drinker

I find either of these to be strange indeed!! But then I like my fried eggs to be well set up, any runny white and I am done, not to much yellow should run out either!
