VATICAN CITY – Germany's sex abuse scandal has now reached Pope Benedict XVI: His former archdiocese disclosed that while he was archbishop a suspected pedophile priest was transferred to a job where he later abused children.

The pontiff is also under increasing fire for a 2001 Vatican document he later penned instructing bishops to keep such cases secret.

The revelations have put the spotlight on Benedict's handling of abuse claims both when he was archbishop of Munich from 1977-1982 and then the prefect of the Vatican office that deals with such crimes — a position he held until his 2005 election as pope.

I've heard the Pope is now saying the current sex abuse scandal is a "test from God". This in response to calls for the pontif to step down as pope.
If the sexual abuse of young boys is the kind of tests God hands out, I'm so glad I'm not in that school...

Yeah, "god's test"...that's the excuse and has been the excuse for thousands of years of human suffering, discriminations,...murders.

The Pope on the rope is in trouble for not getting rid of the pedophiles and then for hiding the evidence...always a way out for the "holy ones"...musta been "god's will" for all their crimes as "god's test"..THEN they also have their system of "forgiveness" so they don't have to feel guilty...or be accountable to real laws.

Must have been "god's will" eh?

This is what free will is. If God was to control someone and "force" them to do as such, that would be God interveing and taking away your free will. Same with the devil doing as such. WE ALL have free will, suck it up and take responsibility for your actions and quit trying to find a scapegoat and or something else to put the blame on.

Um ... for those that believe, is that not EXACTLY what God's doing when promising eternal suffering for those that don't do what he says?

Food for thought.

I dont exactly agree with that point of view. but its good food for thought. Does God ever say he will send anyone to hell or just that he will not let them enter the kingdom of heaven? My God may or may not let me enter into heaven,, the other options would all be Hell as far as Im concerned, but they are as much my choice as it is whether I go east or west from nevada hoping to get to Ohio. There are some routes which just WONT get me there,,but I can choose which routes I will take.

Heaven is a gift. We don't deserve to even see into heaven, but God loves us enough to give us the opertunity to get into that great place. We have to earn our right to enter heaven John 3:3 Verily verily, i say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. God isn't "forcing" anyone to do anything, it is your choice to do anything and everything. Say you're walking down a dirt path and you come to a fork in the road. God isn't going to control you forcably to go down the right path, he will let you choose where you wish to go. Choose wisely.

God may tell you to go down the right path. He may say if you go down the left path you will perish in hell. But still nevertheless it is your choice to use your free will to go down whatever path you wish.

Nice, Arcamedees. laugh

If God loves everyone, why would no one deserve to see Heaven? That's like telling my daughter "I love you, but you can't live in my house. Ever, unless you prove yourself worthy." I've heard of tough love, but ... forcing my daughter to live in a tarpit for the rest of her life because she made some bad (not even technically immoral) decisions... harsh.

I love my son,, Id have no problem not allowing him to live with us if he didnt abide by the guidelines of the house. I wouldnt force him to live in a tarpit either but then I dont have a PARADISE at my home to balance that choice.

What kind of heaven would it be if there was mass murderers, theives, people you couldn't trust, or any other sin? Wouldn't be very enjoyable if you were having to watch your back all the time or worry about the treasures our God set up for you or anything else that cause uncomfort.

Your soul is immortal, right? What need would you have to watch your back? Its not like someone could kill you when you're already dead.

the back in reference is a metaphore. Your body is only a vessle or our true selves so therefor doesn't matter where it goes after you have passed away.

You didn't answer my question, though. If your soul is eternal then what difference does it make if Heaven had mass murderers? They can't kill your soul.

I imagine heaven will have those who were , in the flesh, murderers. ITs hard to separate what is significant to our soul from what is significant to our mortal flesh.
