now ironic I can swallow. Just not blaming a child for the parent's choice.

There are many things my mom did that she felt was right but when I grew up, it wasn't for me or I was very against it

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin -- who has gone to great lengths to hype the supposed dangers of a big government takeover of American health care -- admitted over the weekend that she used to get her treatment in Canada's single-payer system.

"We used to hustle over the border for health care we received in Canada," Palin said in her first Canadian appearance since stepping down as governor of Alaska. "And I think now, isn't that ironic?"

The irony, one guesses, is that Palin now views Canada's health care system as revolting: with its government-run administration and 'death-panel'-like rationing. Clearly, however, she and her family once found it more alluring than, at the very least, the coverage available in rural Alaska. Up to the age of six, Palin lived in a remote town near the closest Canadian city, Whitehorse.

Officials at several hospitals in that area declined to give out information on patient visits.

alright madman....help me understand the point. If I am held accountable for the things my parents did...then i might as well give up and my son would be in even more trouble laugh
Fact is my lovely is when the Palins were poor free healthcare = Good when she is rich healthcare for all is bad

From a speech she gave in front of a Calgary, Alberta crowd (that's in Canada) on SATURDAY, MARCH 7TH!!!

The original report was done by the Globe and Mail, Canada's national newspaper, and published Sunday, March 8th.

That's yesterday for the article, and 2 days ago for the speech.

No need to go back to her childhood, she provides fresh and contemporary adult pearls of lack of judgment and inadequacy for higher office everyday!!!

That's what the person pretending to the highest office of the most powerful nation in the world (scary thought) is being judged upon.

Not what her parents did when she was 6. It's her telling the whole world about it last Saturday that is mesmerizing.

not true. i was visiting canada and suffered a knee injury and was seen right away. there are some long waiting periods yes but majority of the waiting time is for stuff you can actually wait for, not emergencies...and the boast that america has the best health care may be an opinion but also not a fact especially when every poll or ranking has the US listed at 37

they may come here for certain procedures because that's not offered tere simply because there are few doctors trained in that area but i doubt a german is coming to the US to have his butt looked at. all i'm saying i'd rather would have had my motorcycle wreck in england than here this is the worst care i've ever had and i'll be paying it off probably into my 50's because my private insurance won't cover most of it..the rep said "you knew better to ride a motorcycle" isn't that a hoot

I wasnt knocking the USA for everything, I was just posting about our healthcare. I also am not discounting your experience which might prove that we have the best CANCER care (for certain types of cancer) than any country but isnt definitive about care for all the OTHER issues that ail us at any given time.

WE spend way too much for what we get in return, basically. Although there are some AREAS where we have better research and funding than others, our overall system doesnt work very well.

According to the World Health ORganization,,,

We spend 6719 per capita on healthcare and our life expectancy is 78
We have (per 10,000 people) , 26 doctors, 91 nurses, 31 beds

UK spends 2815 per capita on healthcare and life expectancy is 80
They have (per 10,000) 23 doctors, 138 nurses and 29 beds

Japan spends 2581 per capita on healthcare and life expectancy is 83
They have (per 10,000) 21 doctors, 95 nurses and 140 beds

Italy spends 2631 per capita on healthcare and life expectancy is 82
They have (per 10,000) 37 doctors, 72 nurses and 39 beds

Germany spends 2815 per capita on healthcare, life expectancy is 80
They have (per 10,000) 34 doctors,80 nurses and 83 beds

France spends 3420 per capita on healthcare and life expectancy is 81
They have (per 10,000) 34 doctors, 80 nurses and 73 beds

Canada spends 3673 per capita on healthcare, life expectancy 81
They have (per 10,000) 19 doctors, 101 nurses and 34 beds

The way our healthcare stands, we are paying two to three times more than these other countries, but not living any longer or having any better resources (with the exception of specialized medicine such as cancer) for it. Our overall system needs serious change. Noone should be faced with losing their home or having life saving surgery in a country as rich as this...but thats just my opinion
