Topic: Grow up and act your age!

That is a phrase I hate. Why? All through my life I was told "You don't look as old as you say you are" and "why don't you grow up and act your age."

My question is why? I look like I am in my low 30s'still. I have my responsibilities and I handle them. When I see people I went to HS with they look older than I do and they are jealous. And then what do I have to look foreword to if I do "Grow up?" Being a terminal A Hole? being unhappy and miserable all the time? Acting like I have no energy to do anything fun? Live for my responsibilities?

Now in all of this what is the point of growing up to other peoples' standards? I have to conform to other peoples' world views to make them happy?

Thankfully we got freedom of choice. I choose to be mellow when I am dead.

How many of you out there have had the same or similar issues where you are accused of not acting your age?

Now for my smart assed come back, "If I did grow up to act like you I would be the same miserable jerk you are! No Thanks! I'm having too much fun the way I am!"

So to all of you nonconformists out there...

At least I salute you!

I usually just tell them that if they'd have taken care of their health all along, that they wouldn't look as old and wrinkly as they do now. Don't let the 'act your age' crowd bother you, it causes stress... and then you WILL start looking your age slaphead tongue2

looking an age and acting an age are two separate issues.

There is a certain level of maturity that people expect based upon life experience which comes with time on this earth.

I dont expect a forty year old, for instance, to wear their pants on the ground and say dude every other word or to chew gum like their jaw will fall off if they stop , or to whine and complain or be totally dependent upon others while constantly complaining about what others are doing, to gossip, to do nothing but party (things like this I expect from a TEENAGER)

So, I have used the phrase act your age,, and I have meant it. But what I mean by it is not gonna be the same as what the next person means by it.

Hummmmmmmmm the way I see it I'm me if they don't like me the way I'm they can move on. I know when to be serious and when I can just be me. As long as others do not act like a fool when it is totally out of pocket what does it matter.

I've never followed the crowd I do what I want to when I want to as well as I dress anyway I want to not the fashion diva.noway

I speak my mind but not in a rude way and when I need to get my point across I very well can.

I feel that those that live by others standards have lost what life is all about.

It is good to be a child at heart from time to time play silly jokes on others laughter is the key in having a happy and fulfilling life......bigsmile

My ex wife couldn't stand me at the end of are relationship. The more serious she was the more childish I was.

I say this because when I first met her, she wasn't taking everything so serious. Then she met a couple frinds that acted like they were high class but they wer actually low class like me. Making a living and getting by like most of us. It got to the pont where she started to try to talk different and act like how some rich people do. Not my type. So the more she acted like this, and when her friends would come over. I had to have fun and act stupidlaugh

I agree its great to be a child at heart. For me, setting an example of the DIFFERENCE between adolescence and adulthood becomes important as a mother and who I choose to have around me and my kids.

Maybe, just maybe, If I were childless it wouldnt be a priority to me(one acting like the adult time has made them instead of the child they once were, that is). As a mom though, the examples my children are exposed to are important to me.

someone i knew once said, 'if being mature means having to act like an old fart and not have any fun, then i'll stay immature forever'.

i've repeated it often through the years.

Hummmmmmmm well I do have kids as well as a granddaughter. When she comes over we have fun we went and played putt putt yesterday played the games went and had our nails done and ate pizza. We laughed all day and giggled at the putt putt course as a well as within the pizza place.

My kids love it that I'm down to earth with them and joke around and will be silly with them. Their friends have always felt they could come to my house and be themselves. But they realize that when I say something to them in a motherly sense as well that I do mean business.

I will never be a stuck in the mud and not take the time to have fun with my kids and end the laughter....to me laughter is something I feel is a must in every day life.

If it means me getting on a 4 wheeler and playing in the mud to swimming in a pond with them then I'm there.....

I still love to do the things I did as a kid if it is from having a pillow fight to silly string or snow ball fight then hey count me in....

I may be getting older and a tad slower but those things make me smile.

If you didn't know how old you were....

...how old would you be? huh

Somedays I am a 4 year old full of curiosity, questions, adventures and snacks...

other days I am older than dirt, wiser than oceans, and happier than clouds.
