That and the fact that they have turned into the Oakland A's of the Central Division by trading off or not re-signing their major talent.

Meanwhile, the Tigers keep adding young pitching.

The hitting for this season might be a little suspect, but the combination of Verlander, Porcello, Scherzer and Bonderman ( who looks to be fully back from his shoulder problems ) is going to be one seriously tough pitching staff to face for any team. The fifth starter is going to be a toss up depending on whether or not Dontrelle Willis has managed to find his control again, or if Nate Robertson can figure out how to be a " pitcher " rather than a thrower, and if neither of those two work out, whether Phil Coke can step into the starting rotation as a 5th.

Austin Jackson is showing a lot of promise as a young hitter. If he hits .280 this season with 15 or 20 homers, that'll take a lot of pressure off the rest of the lineup.

Jackson leading off, followed by Johnny Damon, Carlos Guillen ( provided he can hit as a daily DH, Ordonez ( who really needs to have a better year than last season ), Miguel Cabrera ( who always hits well, will prove to be a tough lineup.

Then you have the question mark of Scott Sizemore in the bottom half.

And of course, you have Brandon Inge. One of the best defensive 3rd basemen in the game. He always gets a bad rap as far as hitting and he did finish with a pretty low average last season BUT, after the All Star Break, he was playing every day on two bad knees. Take a look at his stats BEFORE the break.

The bullpen is looking VERY good. The Tigers have depth there that they haven't had since '06 when they went to the World Series.

Even though they are being picked to finish 3rd in the Central, all it will take is for some stars to align a bit and they'll take the division.

Even if it doesn't happen this season, the next couple of years ( having signed Verlander long term and none of their young players being up for free agency for at least 5 years ) look VERY good for the Tigers.bigsmile

Directly to the basement of the AL Central.

You DO realize that even KANSAS CITY is better than Cleveland this season???

How pathetic is THAT??

They may not have a good team....but they have an AWESOME stadium. bigsmile

I am wanting to go to GAB sometime before the end of Summer.

I've never been there, but it's not that long a drive from where I live.

Cleveland did trade the last 2 Cy Young winners for some talent. I still think we are better than KC. By the way Tigers suck......smokin

I just moved to Louisiana, and won't be able to go see my White Sox play (without a 400 mile drive), I will still be cheering for them, but I may catch a Cubs-Astros game in Houston. I'll be rooting for..

Yep. Cleveland traded their Cy Young winners away....and the Tigers just signed one ( this year ) to a long term deal.

And they have another one ( potentially ) in his second year in the league.

AND the Tigers have lots of young arms in the rotation and bullpen.

Like I said...the hitting might be suspect....but the pitching is going to help a LOT.

Especially now that Joe Nathan is out for the season.

I'll be finding out in May.

I want to go to one of the games in the St Louis series ( so I can see Pujols hit ). I'm thinking about splurging a bit and getting the tix on the first base side near home plate, if any are available.
