I find it interesting that so many profiles include the term "intelligent," as in "I'm an intelligent young woman looking for an intelligent guy." Usually, they misspell "intelligent," which sort of ruins the whole intent, in my mind. "I'm intilijunt, and you should be, too" just doesn't do it for me.
If you see someone looking for an "inteleguinte guy," odds are that this is just another profile cliche and can safely be ignored. Women don't want an intelligent guy, regardless of how you spell it. It sounds good, looks good in a profile, but put an intelligent guy in front of them, and they run away as if a toilet seat has been left up somewhere in the world. I've often said that when we start using Jeff Foxworthy as a symbol of education, we've got some real problems to deal with. But it's worse than that. Because none of those contestants really ARE smarter than a fifth grader. I'm thinking maybe a downgrade is in order, something that the average man on the street can actually handle, in terms of intellect. Here's what I'm thinking: "Are You Smarter Than A Cheese Grater?" |

... ... Good One!
And, in all fairness, they have recently found that spelling is really an inborn, innate ability ... that has far more to do w/ the grey matter of each individual. Almost like a dyslexia, some brains are born w/out the encoding ability, although the individual has a very reasonable, and even genuis level, IQ! It is extremely prevalent in the mind of scientists and mathematicians, turns out. Who knew? Weird, huh? They literally cannot encode, thus learn to spell. It turns out to be more than a rote memorization skill-set. Shocking for spelling geeks like us, yeah, Lex? Yeah, and then there are the unforgiven ... The garden variety, dead grey matter, never used it-so lost it, cheese graters! |

I've learned to read and interpret heiroglyphics, so long as it's fairly clearly written. I'm just hoping for someone who can spell basic words, even if they don't know the bigger words.

I like intelligent men, they're just extremely hard to find. I agree though about those who make that assertion and then are too stupid to use spell check to spell what they want correctly. Sort of like those men who want a "really gud women." Ahhh, yes, sooooo many takers, I'm sure.

I don't need the guy to belong to MENSA but somebody that doesn't communicate with gutteral grunts would be nice. If they could speak in more than one syllable words it'd be a bonus! If they could actually spell syllable, we're talking write home to mama material.

Lex,
You must be frustrated today. You are too intelligent to not understand there are varying degrees of intelligence. And someone who makes typo's or misspell's words is not necessarily unintelligent. I think most people on a very basic level want someone they can communicate and connect with. To have conversation and discussion and revel in each other's differences. To them that is intelligence. It's not genius or genetics. It's human. I'm sure I've misspelled a word or two and I still remember that there is a rat in separate (thank you by the way) but I consider myself intelligent, articulate and a wee bit kind. In short, intelligence and beauty are in the eye of the beholder. |

I avoids dems dat wants to crittersize peeps wut don't spail good. Jus a sign of a corntrol freek whoo gots a need to repear superior.
Intelligence don't all come from book learnin'. I know many folks who cain't read a lick and gots more smarts dan eenie collidge gradurate. Careful about wanting to be mo special than th' other person. It's cold and lonely at the top. |

1: What are your qualifications? 2: Ah. Well... I attended Juilliard... I'm a graduate of the Harvard business school. I travel quite extensively. I lived through the Black Plague and had a pretty good time during that. I've seen the EXORCIST ABOUT A HUNDRED AND SIXTY-SEVEN TIMES, AND IT KEEPS GETTING FUNNIER EVERY SINGLE TIME I SEE IT... NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT YOU'RE TALKING TO A DEAD GUY... NOW WHAT DO YOU THINK?!? You think I'm qualified?

Hehehehehe ........willing2....tha't funny sh#t.
I gotta say that I appreaciate a woman with brains as much as I do her looks. Especieally if she keeps em in a 36DD lacy white push up bra and stuffs those puppies into one of those fuzzy white sweaters with the plunging neck line so I can just get a glimpse of her intellect. Yep, brainy women make me horny. |

Reading alot of these scrutiny posts makes me feel as if everyones words are placing them into categories, and on here, that really can't be done because you're only getting a inkling of who a person really is. |

That's right...besides, I am usually drunk as hell when I mispell something so, I actually have a scientifically validated excuse for appearing stupid. |

Reasons some people may have problems with the English language:
Family Culture-they have been raised in a home that the daily use of English was used incorrectly in both the spoken and written form. Books or other forms of written materials were not available in the home. School-they attended school and English was a required subject but the teachers were ineffective in teaching English. Learning Disabled-they were born with some form of learning disability. English as a Second or Third Language-they have recently come to the United States and do not know how to speak or write English well. I am sure there are many other reasons but the public schools are presently turning out many students that barely know how to read or write. I think this may be one of the major causes of people having problems in writing/speaking/reading/ English. If anyone can think of more reasons please add them. |
