Topic: For the ladies, do you hate being called | |
---|---|
It depends on who is saying it to me and how they are saying it...
Usually it's just someone being polite |

Worked the National Rodeo Finals in Vegas one year as a craps dealer. Never been called Ma'am so much in my life! And I wasn't complainin'!

I don't know, I have heard men say it with a sexy southern drawl and a wink and it made me what to show him just what a ma'am, I am. Yes Maam, this Southern boy will always respectfully wink at ya'! I'll even open the doors for you, hold your hand crossing the street and set your chair for you. It's sad, a lot of kids today don't know how to be gentlemen. I think missy, the old lady, dear, are some of the condescending terms. Anyone who knows me or has read my posts knows, I ain't no boy scout. I don't limit the above to just women. Old men, little kids, will see a hand extended to help them out. Can't count the times I've walked arm-in-arm with a man to help steady them or a little kid who has hurt themselves. Picking the child up, holding them close and making sure they are ok. |

Nope I don't mind at all when people are trying to be polite or respectful.

I have no problem with it at all. It sounds much better than what most men come out with these days.

Nope I don't mind at all when people are trying to be polite or respectful. At first, when someone called me that I didn't like it because my grandmother raised us to say Ma'm. I felt really old. Yet, I do know it's a form of respect and when a younger person says it to me, know that they were raised well. |

I don't know, I have heard men say it with a sexy southern drawl and a wink and it made me what to show him just what a ma'am, I am. As a born & bred Southern woman, I can testify to that, Sistah! As long as they don't call me Pookie or anything equally offensive...I'm OK with it... |

Ma'am? I don't care for it but it does show some manners. I just tell them my name so they can use that next time. |

I like being called ma'am.. unless it's one of my 6th graders doing it sarcastically to get attention! Then they just get "the look".
