My dog shadow was a sweet rotty. I had her for a life time. She got sick and i had to put her down. I stayed with her wen they did it. She looked up at me one last time. And then she was gone. It broke my heart. I was p'g so that made it even harder. So she was my baby befor i had my real baby. And the last thing she saw was me 'her owner. Who loved her intel the end.

chewing.....anxiety of sorts....missing u when u r gone.
kong toy about $10 at Petsmart. Fill with peanut butter. Keeps them busy 4 hour or so. Be gone no more than 4 hours. Kennel or crate them. Give more exercise. Dogs r travelers. Need a walk besides running around back yard.flowerforyou

Chewing, yes it is an anxiety disorder of sorts. And my parents and I are working on correcting the problem. He is very hyper and needs constant attention. I always volunteer to take him on walks to wear him out, but my mom doesn't want his white coat to get dirty, so we reach an impasse. He also has a habit of excessive licking and jumping up on people, yet another quirk we need to work on. Charlie's a handful. laugh

um well so u have an anxiety pooch. i think that i read somewhere u can give them anxiety meds. but check with your vet. don't go to moms cabinet, and pull out the prozac, cause it is something like xanax....
then, wigwam destroyer...well i am reading up on that 2, and will post what i learn.
am going to take a "wigwam destroyer" class soon. stay tuned.flowerforyou

When I had to have my dog put down, I was so heart-broken that the vet's wife, who is also his assistant, bought me a tack-pin of a dog with halo and wings. I cried all over again.

Doing that was one of the hardest things I've ever done, but I'm glad I was there.

A PET'S TEN COMMANDMENTS.........

1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.

2. Give me time to understand what you want of me

3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.

4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.

5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.

6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.

7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.

8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.

9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.

10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can't bear to watch. Don't make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so.

"5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me"

Actually, I think my Sylvia (German Shepherd) DOES understand my words.

Expecially in larger breeds, they have a very large vocabular of words they learn to understand.

I just saw an article ( can't remember exactly where ) that said dogs can understand up to 150 words.

While sitting on the vet's floor with my best friend mostly on my lap waiting for first of two shots to take effect my dear, sweet, never hurt a fly Molly turned and snapped at me, even grazed me with her teeth...her last look was the one we all seem to get, the loving good bye look, the thanks for a good life look, but what was that snap about? She knew and was scared a little if you ask me. She has been gone many years now, I still miss her. She was the best, smartest, most loyal dog I have ever had the privilege to have shared a life with.
