I think if they are physically able they should be allowed to. But in reality most of the service woman aren't physically able. The physical fitness test is a lot more lenient for women then it is for men. If the women can compete physically with the guy's with the same requirements then I'm all for it. Otherwise I'd be afraid they would become a liability. Not only because of less strength but because of a guys natural instinct to protect women......I could foresee a problem...at first. jmo In the reality of things I do agree with this as well as the issue of women being Raped not only by their fellow troops but as well as when they have been captured. There are many aspects of the war that a women can perform though that would indeed help place more men on the front line which in fact they are used for every day. My thoughts are if they can pass the same test that men can then and only then would I totally agree to put them up front and center. Even though I'm all for women rights I still don't believe the test should be changed to fit the criteria just for women. If men can't pass the test for men they are bypassed which should hold true for the women as well. That is as far as combat but then they should be considered to work within the areas that are much needed instead. JMO Agreed, I also believe it should hold true for women on Ships...We had a situation on my last ship...During an Unrep(Underway Replenishment) where the fuel line came loose spraying JP5(jetfuel) all over the deck. Making for a VERY slippery deck even though we put sand/salt down immediately it was still very dangerous conditions because it was night and one of my shipmates went into shock...all of our stretchers bearers that were on-call just happened to be all female at that time. Well they couldn't carry him. So the nearest four guys, who were not as skilled as the women in the safety precations to take had to take over. Because they weren't physically able to do it. So now we had untrained personel doing the job someone else was trained to do because of physical strength. That is what I'd be worried more about in a combat environment. |

I do however know more girls that are a better shot then most guys. My mother for one can do more damage with a gun then my dad could ever hope...
oh yeah, the top ranked women marksman ranks like 400th in the world.....and do you know why they don't rank higher even though they sometimes shoot better?, because the rapid fire test gets them, they aren't fast enough..... As for where a woman or a man belong. That's the most sad thing I've ever heard ^nope, almost...sadder is the fact that you think they belong there, or anyone in war for that matter..... |

Re: Women Navy SEALS
"If you have watched the movie G.I. Jane, you probably wondered if there really is a Lt. Jordan O’Neil in real life. Lt. O’Neil, the female protagonist of the story, went through SEAL/CRT training and received a silver insignia, inscribed with the words ‘SEAL’ and ‘CRT’, at the end of the movie. The CRT (or Combined Reconnaissance Team) unites several branches of the service, namely the Navy SEALs, the Army Delta, the Marine Force Reconnaissance and the Navy Intelligence. This is just a product of the writer’s imagination, though. There has never been a member of the female species to ever take part of the Navy SEALs. Gender typecasting comes at us whether we are paying attention or not, and women’s participation in the SEALs springs in a lot of discussions. Should women be allowed to become US Navy SEALs? Sure, the women of today have been a lot tougher than before. There are many women who have excelled in fields that used to be dominated by men. In terms of physical capabilities, many women can endure the toughest obstacle courses ever made. Women can also be great snipers. However, SEAL authorities have given out a number of reasons why women can’t be allowed to join the training. First, men and women cannot stay in a single house together. Another point is that women have special needs on hygiene, especially during their menstrual period, and fighters might have to stay and hide in a foxhole for a week during battles. Basically, a woman’s physiology proves inappropriate for battle conditions. Many say that women can’t be in the battlefield, but there is surely a role in the SEAL operations that would be ideal for them. If the United States is to stay as the world’s most competent and powerful military force, we should find the best person for every job, regardless of gender." http://blog.usnavyseals.com/2008/10/women-in-seals-could-real-gi-jane-exist.html |
