Topic: E-Harmony discriminates against gays!

I just know I probably wouldn't last long on a BBW, gay, other race or religion site. ohwell

they are privately owned sites, so they have the rights just as I have the right to not even go there. Just like that one site that votes people in or out of the site based on what they think is "beautiful". I wouldn't want to be a part of a site like that, but it's their site to run with whatever conditions. They take the chance of losing members and going out of business, as well.

E-Harmony just lost a class action lawsuit to the tune of $2 million because the courts found they discriminate against gay people.

I'm confused. (I'm not taking sides). At the end of 2008, eHarmony
agreed to create a site (Compatible Partners) to accommodate the
"men seeking men" and "women seeking women" scenarios. They
launched the site sometime in Mar 2008 due to complaints filed
as far as back as 2005.

What's this one about?
Well..they formed that as a response to the law suit....

Are we living in Communist China now?We don't have the right to not allow certain members in PRIVATE clubs and websites? It's no secret that E-harmony is a Christian website that practices what it preaches by not allowing gays in their website. It also filters out other people who it believes is not good for it's website. This is nothing more than one gay person who wants to take a perfectly good website for Christians and drag it's name in the mud.Even after this win I know gays are not going to visit E-harmony to hook up because why would they? There won't be any gays there. It would be like me trying to find a good straight Christian woman in some gay website. There is probably a hundred or so gay websites out there with unlimited people to choose from.

The gays are always preaching tolerance.Forcing a company to believe what you want them to believe against their will is hardly tolerant.I can only hope E-harmony files suit against the gay websites for not having a section in their website for Christians seeking Christians.

This win will go down in history as a great injustice and only increase tensions between the Christians and the gays.

Perhaps, if and when people start suing ALL the websites with specific dynamics,,,,these types of decisions will be overturned. As I said, Im looking into all the websites that dont have the option 'man or woman' in the looking for category. That is so obviously discriminating against bisexuals and I want my two mill as well,,,,(just kidding, I dont believe in nonsense suits).

Id be nervous if I were the owner of Gayfriendfinder.com though,,this sets a DANGEROUS and expensive precedent.

Okaaaay. So we're 2 years after they've created the site to
accommodate non-heterosexuals ... what's the point now?
Is this old news or did I miss something?

No...it was a RESPONSE to the suit...to prevent future complaints. The settlement is recent.

And you know Ms harmony this crap always has to be a Christian issue. How I would love to see them pull this same thing with a Muslim singles website.Telling them they have to allow gays.

The freedom of Religion is protected under the Constitution. That means your Religious beliefs will not be taken away from you.Forcing someone to believe and adhear to things that you are against because of your religious beliefs is so wrong. This maybe a website but I look at it more like I own a church or a business that caters to Christians only and the courts are telling me I have to start stocking porography, beer, condoms, and other things because someone might come into my store and say I am discrimating against them because I am not catering to them.

The gays should start suing the women only health clubs out there.Gay boy can't get inside.Better start suing the Victorias secret so crossdressers can get into the changing room.

That is not what America is about. It's a sad day for America when you risk you life fighting Wars only to come home to have your freedom of thought taken away because someone doesn't like your ideas.I also don't remember reading anywhere in the Bill of rights or the Constitution where you have the right not to be offended.

E-harmony should just shut down.It would be better for them and to the Christians out there by making a bold statement that our Christian beliefs are more important than making money.

as for the military, I have never been in the military (I have problems with authority laugh ) so I'm not sure how it would effect the soldiers, if it would at all. As far as the actual job, then it shouldn't matter

It is going to create more problems than it's going to solve.

Obviously people who support gays in the military have never served in the military or if they are serving and support it they are probably gay.If you are living in the Barracks on the base you are going to have at least one roommate and more than likely two roommates. You do not get to pick your roommates someone else picks them for you.You all live in one single room and have to share a bathroom with the entire floor you are on.Needless to say a man who has one or two flaming gay roomates who is straight is not going to be very happy.Privacy is minimal and in a few short days you are going to know everything there is to know about this person as you will be living with him and also working with him.

There is also a second major reason gays should not be open in the military. With few exceptions women are not allowed to come into the rooms of the males living in the barracks and men are not allowed to come into the females rooms living in the barracks. The simple reason is that people would be having sex all over the place. When you have two gay males who are openly gay serving in the military they can have sex with out restrictions and more often. If they are both serving on the same command this often leeds to lover spats, bickering, and other love related problems all hurting the mission of the command.I realize two people can leave the base and go to a hotel but the military preventing people from having sex in their own barracks rooms prevents alot of screwing around.

Lets talk about deployments.I was in the Navy and the typical deployment is 6-9 months.Needless to say going weeks sometimes months with out talking or associating with women takes its toll.Once you get into port there is two things everyone does.Find the the nearest bar,and then to the nearest whorehouse.I would be very uncomfortable knowing I was going on a 6 month deployment with a ship full of horny gay men.Instead of living in a room with two guys I am living in room full of 30 guys.Knowing opening gay men are watching me dress and undress(which they would unless you want to change in the shower)is not welcome to me.

You already have enough problems with the blacks trying to get along with the whites and the rednecks trying to get along with the mexicans and everything inbetwenn.Adding gays to the picture will only complicate matters.

Wow, whats next, sue the girl scouts for discriminating against boys?

Or man on man sights for discriminating against straights...
Or seniors meet for discriminating against non seniors

Dating sights do and should have the right to be set up for whatever groups they wish to be..far too many of them out there for it to be impeding anyone

Or maybe I should sue eharmony for not allowing married people to join,,,,

Either E-harmony had terrible lawyers or this judge was so far out of touch with reality that he had no idea where he was.I just can't see how this stood in court.I can understand if the world only had one singles site and that was E-harmony and the gays couldn't find someone. But there must be at least 50 gay friendly singles sites out there. What's next???Going to a singles site for Atheist and suing to get a Christian seeking Christian section? Not sure if this has gone to the Supreme court but it needs to because 1.)The gays have many alternatives besides E-harmony 2.)It is infringing on expression of religion 3.)It's not interfering or disrupting on anyone's rights since no one is required to go there in the first place.

And what about the Christians? We don't have any rights anymore? What about the millions of people you are offending who support E-harmony and support it because they know it is a Christian website? What about the fallout from people canceling memberships because they know E-harmony is supporting the gay causes which the Christians are against?

What???Gays were the most famous warriors in history? What are you smoking???I doubt if gays were the most famous warriors in history since gay people were typically killed on the spot both here and around the world once it was found out.

I can tell you from both serving in the Navy and the Army that I have never found anyone who was pro gay.I met more than my fair share of people that said gays getting hit by friendly fire was just a "oops" moment.

No disrespect but you can't speak for all of the vets. My ex served and he was in the Guard for 20 plus years. He worked with gays in the service. He could care less. Btw, he's not gay.

Alexander the Great, Achelies (actually both were bi) , spartans were men lovers , i could go on...you should do some actual reading instead of spreading hate on this site.
On this thread, i don't see how this is important news. If you're paying to be on a website, that site can accept who they want and who they don't want but most importantly you shouldn't be paying to be on that kind of website to begin with.

Wow...you really are just spreading your own fear based agenda. I know plenty of service men and women that were supportive and still are supportive of same-sex members of the military.

Hey, I have an idea...let's get into a statistic debate.

One; there is the 'don't ask, don't tell' policy, which pretty much means what it states. No one asks about another soldier's sexual orientation, and no one tells anyone about their personal orientation. Which really makes it hard for one side or the other to say "I don't want to serve with ----."

Two; http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35197645/ns/us_news-military --Admiral Mullen formally of the U.S. Navy and currently the highest ranking officer of the United States armed forces has said that the "don't ask, don't tell" policy needs to be done away with because, and I quote "the right thing to do."

Three; estimates in 2000 of how many gay/lesbian service men/women there were was 36,000. Now to be fair the total number of active personnel in 2000 was 1,384,338. Now, 36,000 is about 2.6% of 1,384,338, which nullifies your "ship full of horny gay men" statement.
