I've been looking for apartments all morning and it had me wondering...

What's rent like where you live? If you're currently renting, what do you pay? Or, if you don't want to give that information, what's typical in your area?

When I was living in Herndon, VA, I paid $1135/month for a one bedroom apartment.

$1135 a month. I thought Cali was high at times.

When I lived In Cali I was paying $1150 for a 3 beroom house. That normally would jhave been more like $2250 a month. I knew the owner

Now I live in UT and I pay $550 a moth for a two bedroom Apt.

Yeah, California is generally very high. I live in the Antelope Valley and the rent is much cheaper for a nice area. I pay $1030 for a 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment. In other areas of Southern Cali this would be $1500 or $1600.

Yep, and Mass is actually low compared to Cali... A 2 bdrm in my area goes for $1500-2000 and a 3 bdrm $2000-2500 and that's during the low rents when the economy is better it's even higher..

Well bear in mind that I live in (Tax)achusetts which happens to be one of the last states on the map that U would even remotely want to consider home ownership. So let's talk apts.then.Within the city an average 1 bdrm w/ partial utilities is $550.00-$700.00(sub-par area)$700.00-$900.00(nice area).Add 150.00 more for each if 2 bdrm.If U branch out to-wards rural areas then your looking at $1100.00-$1300.00(no utilities).Welcome to Mass.ohwell flowerforyou

Doesn't sound any different than where I was living. Though, where I was, the farther away from the city, the less it cost.

My brother just rented out his house here. It's a 3 bedroom, 2-story home. He rented it out for $675/month. St. Louis.

My house payment is cheaper than that.

After seeing what most people here pay each month, I think I might be living in the wrong place. laugh

I don't know what rent is going for nowadays, (and I can't see it ever really going DOWN like the housing market for buying and selling houses has). But THREE YEARS AGO my son had a one bedroom apartment with only one bedroom and no dining room and only a small eat in (outdated) kitchen and was paying $750 a month at that time. Oh and he lived in a very bad neighborhood in Worcester Ma. Soooo bad that his girlfriend's father who is on the police force there told her she could NOT move in that apartment, not because he didn't want her to be with my son....Because of the neighborhood (ha).

1 BR/1 BA, about 900 sq. ft., nice part of Atlanta for $880/mo. It's a bit expensive, but one of the nicer complexes in the area.
