I prepped myself for years first and then picked a day. Bought me some gum so I wouldn't kill anyone and did it.

I have been quit since 09/09/09, well that was my first day without gum or any nicotine.

Did the gum help with cravings? I've tried quitting half heartily a few times cold turkey but it didn't last long

Yea, it really does. You have to get over the taste of it and get used to letting it sit in your mouth because it really isn't chewed like gum. It also give your mouth a funny sensation and might make your throat a bit sore at first.

I only used the gum for a few days though.

It says to use it for longer that that to make sure. I just wanted to get it over with.

Electronic cigarettes, you inhale nicotine. I will never smoke a cigarette again. Just buy USA made nicotine liquid for the e-cig, it is safer I think.

try by force of will to make it one day. stay busy and away from anyone who smokes. very busy. do whatever it takes.

if you can make it one day, then commit to go one more day. the
first 3 days are the hardest.

if you can make it 2 then you don't wanna backslide. go for 3.

after 3 days there was a much reducced chemical need at least for me.
then i would try for a week as my goal.

after a week you should be able to go months or permanently.
but you really have to want it. it was the hardest thing i had
done up to that point in my life. it often takes several tries
to get those first 3 days.

i quit 3 times. 1st was for my gf. it lasted several years.
2nd was for myself but i let down my guard and went back after
being off a year.

3rd time was also for myself - and my dad who was having trouble
quitting too. so i told him i'd quit if he would and we would try
together - although living in different cities.

that was in 1992 in july and that was the last time.
i feel fortunate that i did not accumulate the pack-years any
more than i did. but it is over for me now.

good luck to any and all who are trying to kick this.

I was at a night club, walked in the restroom with a cigarette
in my mouth, looked at myself in the mirror, and thought,
"that looks pretty stupid" ... I took the pack of cigarettes out
of my pocket and threw them in the trash.

That was about 20 years ago (I smoked close to 15 years).

The health risk(s) and the repugnant odor should be enough
incentive to make anyone quit.

No oder, no tar, no smoke, with the e-cig. Nicotine by itself is not bad for you it is the "stuff" you get from smoking. The e-cig is called vaping b/c you have an atomizer so just receiving nicotine by vapor. The patch would not work for me, which is nicotine as well, They think the hand to mouth action is what works with the e-cig. It has been 4 months for me, no smoking.

40–60 mg can be a lethal dosage for adult humans. High
concentrations of nicotine can paralyze the breathing and
heart muscles.

Granted, all the other chemicals found in a cigarette are
quite harmful, but to say nicotine "is not bad for you"
is a very naive statement.

You are right I did not indicate the lethal dose haha. The meaning was that inhaling small doses of nicotine per vaporiser versus smoking regular cigs is most likely better for you. Pure nicotine in very small doses in not harmful, you can do the research.

The nicotine patch is nicotine absorbed topically thru the skin.

Nicotine gum is chewed, absorbed in the mouth and also swallowed.

I've done the research years ago. Oddly enough, nicotine
is used in other medical research in treating certain
"diseases", such as schizophrenia.

But the fact remains, any dosage of nicotine is bad for you,
in the long run.
