I will be taking the matter further. I will be take the matter to the head.Apparently a deputy head took another girl away from the scene, I did not see him nither did he come back!! noway noway When I viewed a playback of the images it looked horrendous, kids were pushing (thank God there was no sound) the noise was unbelievable! Some of the boys were barking, some were howling like wolves, there were cheers of 'fight, fight' and then there were those who were pushing the girls into each other to fight. It was a scene from 'Lord Of The Flies'

I was not phased for one moment, just peed off that I was calling on my two way radio and no one responded. I was told later that my line manager was responding........... Strange, I did not hear her and she was right outside the GLASS doors leading into the corridor where it all took place./color]

Sorry this happend. Are you ok??Report every one involved. To make sure that this does not happen again! Tuff shi## if they don't like it.You didn't like the way you were left either.
Good Luck..noway grumble

Hi Chick, I'm fine now, just very upset earlier. I have written up my reports and informed my union.

no, the girls in question should not be allowed to get physical with a member of the staff, no more than it would be suitable if the rolls were reversed.

i don't know the laws that govern this type of behavior in your country but, it seems to me that children everywhere are more likely to get away with this than an adult would.(rightfully so, in some cases) however, i feel as though these kinds of acts should be dealt with on a level that the child (student) can understand. at some point we all have to be taught that there are consequences to our actions. as a teen this individual (imo) is old enough to know better than to put a hand on anyone, much less an authority figure.

i would say yes, involve the police...if nothing else, to protect your self.

I got the impression that this young woman felt it was wrong of me to stop the fight, where did she think she was, a ranch? Bearing in mind that the bell had rung signalling the end of the lunch break, they were intent on doing what they thought they had to do (a law unto themselves) So far this month ( and we have only been back at school for a little over four weeks) the children have broken the toilets ( so where are they going to go when the need arises?) destroyed every last one of the water fountains, taken the fire exit doors off, broken several double glazed windows......... The list is endless!! I will await the verdict on Monday, I have already informed my union.

ahhhh to be young again...laugh

I'll tell you one thing, if i had acted this way in school my parents would have been made sure it only happened once. the faculty and the authorities would have been the least of my worries.

We get no backing from most parents, instead they will come into the school and tell you that their child did NOT do whatever it is you told the parents the child did. How the hell can the parent vouch for their child when they were not even present in school when their child was misbehaving?

I have to agree with the old wives tale............ The only child you can vouch for is the unborn one in your stomach.

Sorry to hear what happened, it seems to be happening more and more these days. The respect factor is missing with alot of children and adults. Parents need to start being parents.

My son's school has a zero tolerance rule for fighting. No student is allowed to lay a hand on another student. if a fight starts on school grounds, the police are automatically brought in and both students are given 3 day suspensions. The parents must come to the school and talk to the principle before the student can return to school. This has really worked well and the number of school incidents has gone way down. However, the fights do happen. They just move them off of school grounds.

Assaulting a teacher is grounds for immediate removal from school and the student must attend an alternative school.

I don't know what your school's policies are but I think a revision is needed and the staff who did nothing needs to be held accountable.

Thanks for caring enough to put yourself at risk to help the child they were attacking.flowerforyou

I like the sound of your son's school, I wish we would adopt those principles here. I'm afraid there are too many on the bandwagon of 'let's protect the child at all costs' I'm just wondering, what would have been my punishment if I had walked on by and left the girls to fight like the others did?

As for would I do it again? Yep, I am in this job because I felt I can change someone's life.

zero tolerance or not, your school should have a written policy concerning student fights and violence directed at teachers

and there should be a written procedure directing teachers in that policy

if there is not, it should be brought to the attention of the school board that there needs to be one

unfortunately this behavior happens far too much nowadays, there's a CRIPPLED teacher that walks past my house every school day, he wasn't crippled 3 years ago, he was breaking up a fight outside the school when a girl grabbed him from behind and broke his neck, he still teaches. When I volunteered as a "safe corridor" I broke up many fights between middle school kids, and it's amazing they "the students" would gather around and you had to fight your way to the combatants. I'd always tell them, break it up, because you won't like it if I do. I only had to ever break one up, they didn't like it....however words of advice, be careful...we live in a lawsuit world, but me I don't care, sue me, if you want to act like an a.s.s you get treated like an a.s.s......in these types of situations it can get ugly real quick, you need eyes in back of your head and on the sides too, but sad to say every school needs a goon squad nowadays. A group of adults selected to manage just this type of thing.....The girl in your case should be expelled immediately and sent to a reformatory where she'll get her equal and then some.....and all the teachers who refused to come to your aid, should be fired on the spot....just my opinion...Yes I know teachers are hired to teach, but they are also responsible for the welfare of the children and that includes seperating them in brawls or whatever, or getting help to do so.

Oh I will be having a quiet word with 'I'm Mr Sauve look-at-me' I have stepped into his classroom many a times to help him out, because according to him he feels he is unable to 'deal' with the Black children in the school (he is Cuban) So I saddle up my charger an go to battle on his behalf...........

This will be my first priority on Monday. I will also be asking that they print a handbook informing the children that they have the wrong end of the stick when they defiantly stand infront of members of staff and boldly say 'You cannot touch me.' I have no idea where they got this garbled message from!

I'm afraid we have gone soft on bad behaviour, however, I refuse to be 'dumbed down' and lose who I am as a person.
