I will watch. It is heartwarming when people like these celebs , who have so much, give to people who have so little. It uplifts me to see the action and charity. You dont think that alot of this is a charitable tax write off for them Why are not they doing such elaborate things for our poor and suffering ![]() |

You dont think that alot of this is a charitable tax write off for them Why are not they doing such elaborate things for our poor and suffering No, I dont assume anything about charity other than that it is charitable. We DO have many resources here for the poor and suffering and we have many who give to them, quite possibly some of the same who are ALSO giving to those in Haiti. I also think there is a difference in our two countries. We are known to be a country of great wealth in which others probably expect us to take care of our own. Haiti has very little economically, so others with more are coming forward. When we have catastrophes, other countries do come to our aid as well. But I think it would be like Trump complaining that his kid doesnt have grants to help with school while children in urban areas might. Sometimes people base their assistance on what they feel an immediate need is, as a country, we dont have an immediate need for anyones charity, we just have a need to not be so greedy with what we already have. Other countries dont have it to begin with. |

We dont have an immediate need tell that to the homeless the poor the starving the sick the foreclosed upon the food pantries the emergency rooms Finances are as helpful as 'dirty' work. They pay for the resources which assist to get that work done. As I said before, I dont assume to know why people give charity or if they are ONLY giving to Haiti and not to the poor in America as well. We have enough in America to fill the needs of Americans, but other countries, like Haiti are not so lucky. |

o then let the gvt cut a check without the televised party!
Why dont these stars cut their big checks without strutting their stuff all over tele and the internet Because they wont recoup in record or movie ticket sales I am sending my checks this year to American Harvest to feed hungry americans and the USO for our servicemen And every country makes their own bed We are not God to the world If we add up all the $$$$ being sent there when its all over and we spent it here on our own wed be doing pretty damn well!!! |

Nope, I won't. There has been so much money & goods collected & that they don't know what to do with it all. To me it's too little too late. What I mean is, where was all of this assistance while the country in general has languished in turmoil & disarray for decades?
It always seems easier to spend money retro-actively than pro. What would have happened if the money collected today had been spent constructing buildings to with stand earthquakes of that magnitude? It appears that the fact that Eureka, CA suffered a 6.5 quake, the same week, is lost on most. Only because of California's building codes. Don't get me wrong, I feel the pain & suffering & feel awful for the survivors. I pray that their suffering is ended soon. But don't forget the lesson in this event. It's not about us & we're not in control. |

Again, who is to say they arent cutting checks AND performing? Their performances bring people out whose money can go to helping others instead of lining their pockets. They are giving time and effort to raise money for a good cause and I just cant see anything so terrible in it. We are not God to the world, but we cant expect blessings without being willing to bless others. |

It's not about us & we're not in control. I agree, but we cant go back and do or undo what was done or not done. We can only work from this point FORWARD. To build, people need resources, and resources cost money. I enjoy the musicians and feel they are performing for a good cause, the human cause. Because of that, I will watch. I would watch if it were just some awards show, why not watch when it goes to charity as well? |

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt donated 6.8 million dollars to charity in 2008. Global Health received $2 million, Human Rights Watch had $1 million as well as Pitt’s Hurricane Katrina charity got 1 million dollars. Armed Services YMCA of the US Army got 500,000 dollars and 1 million dollars to projects in Cambodia. And Brad continues to work on the building of homes for Katrina victims, still. There are many who are giving all the time. Just isn't always talked about.. Michael Jackson gave millions and millions to help the poor in America and other countries. Nobody talks about that..only what a freak he was. |

The show was very well put together and thoughtful.
Although it is true that we have our troubles here in America, (and I agree more should be done at home) it's nice to see others thinking of others and not just themselves. I also agree that a lot of the help should have came way before now. But the Divine One has a way of revealing to some what is known by most. About 80% of the population of Haiti lives in poverty. This should not be acceptable anywhere on the planet. But it's the reality these people live with daily. It is said, "charity should begin at home." Nice sentiment. But it rarely happens here in the States. Hollywood wanted to help and feels that this is the way to do that. Nothing wrong in that, but with numerous Americans losings homes, jobs and the way of life they have grown accustomed to, some may think that the money could and should be used to help our own. And that can and could be done, but as long as those that have, want to make sure that those that have not stay on the receiving end of nothing it will never change in America. That's the thing about free will, you earn your money and you basically can spend it how you please. May not seem right, but that's the way it is. I believe when it is in your power to help those that need help, you should help. Regardless of where or what the need may be. This is my opinion, not a reflection on anything that has been posted so far. |

I suppose the stats could be found on google or something... Brad Pitt still works the katrina housing, he never stopped since he started it years ago. I love my country also...A country like Haiti does not have the resources to have a telethon..and their government does nothing to help them. There is no welfare, no food stamps, no housing, not even a police force that can be called for help. I'm not understanding the resentment for helping others in need. Many wealthy people donate all the time and yes to the needy here. If you research what MJ did you would be blown away. He gave away so much.... I guess for me it matters not where the money went..where much is given, much is expected and if those who have much, give..it doesn't matter where as long as they have given back. This is human drama, not just America..... not being American isn't even a factor. Americans are more important than other humans?? Since when.. |

He was listed in the 2000 edition of the Guinness Book Of World Records for breaking the world record for the "Most Charities Supported By a Pop Star". It states that Michael Jackson has supported 39 charity organizations either with monetary donations through sponsorships of their projects or by participating in their silent auction. Not bad for someone labeled a freak. |

Until the time comes when the shoe is on the other foot and WE are the ones in need,,, Anytime a human helps another human in need (without breaking the law) , it is a good thing in my opinion. I would not pass over someones child in the street because they werent mine, and I wont do that to the children in other countries because they arent american. IN the end though, it is up to each individual what to give and how much and whom to give it to, and not really anyone elses place to pass judgment on the giving.
Oxfam, to which these proceeds will go along with several other american charities , is just as noble a charity as any other. It is one charity amongst MULTITUDES here in America but it happens to focus on needs outside of America. I am proud to see so many step up to give to someone other than 'their own'. It really gives me a shimmer more hope for man. |

I care about ALL life..these people have sooo much less than we do. Another human being doesn't have to be an American for me to feel their pain. Matters not where they are....these children who are experiencing enormous suffering are no less precious than my children or yours.. So very well put into words ![]() Just because they not English,American,or whatever does not mean i dont feel sad when i see suffering around the world. Trouble is we live in such a selfish world and the attitude of me me me makes me sick, people should think less of me me me and this world would be a better place to live, the nation of Haiti has my deepest sympathy.
