What exactly does that mean to you? To my thinking in means six pack abs. But, most of the people that use this as their body type don't have six pack ads.

athletic , for me, just means someone who spends a good deal of time in sports or has a similar physique to someone who does. Not all athletes look like muscleheads. Football players like Jerry Rice, for example. He is an athlete, he has a healthy and fit BMI( I would imagine). Also Tiger Woods or Michael Jordan. The men in my family (with exception of my son) have always been into sports and were in their younger years of sports involvement very athletic (but never looked like muscleheads, just fit). Sugar Ray Leonard and Macho Cammacho are two more athletic built(but not BIG) men.

I think, this is entirely wrong, no offense. We are talking about a body type, not the activity. You can't call someone to have an athletic body type if he or she doesn't have an athletic body type whatsoever, and just because he or she is active in sports.

There is no way in hell that a summo wrestler or some 60 year old obese man playing golf is an "athletic" body type because they are into sports.

And here's Sharon Stone. I'd say her body is athletic.

Yes, I understand that. I was comparing the body type. The body type is that LIKE someone who is involved heavily in sports , someone who would be fit, like the examples I gave above. Athletic means I will feel strong muscle tone when there is physical contact, nothing necessarily OUTRAGEOUS or overdone,, but just strong muscle tone from being physically active(or some who have it naturally).

a sumo wrestler is an athlete, why is his body not athletic? Why assume that only one's perception of fit actually fits?

It's all a preference, what's athletic to one may not be athletic to another.

I agree with Atlantis. To maintain your body like that requires lots of work and takes a huge amount of time. I've dated guys like that and they will try to get you to participate with them. It is a little obsessive, there's the gym, participating in contests, etc. Let's say I didn't want to ride my bike 4 miles to attend a play at the local college.frustrated

Because a summo wrestlers are not fit whatsoever. I neither find summo wrestling or playing golf are not even real sports.
If a summo wrestler body type would write "athletic" in his description, within no time this would become a laughing matter, trust me. I hate it when political correctness are now destroying the meaning of the words.

I'd say the one that would be unfit is the one entering the ring with a sumo wrestler.

as you don't think golf nor wrestling are real sports, neither shall I smitten

Not fit? Hmmmm Strong like bull maybe?

If you thought that all Rikishi (Wrestlers) did to train was eat, you are sadly mistaken. Training for the lower ranked Rikishi (From Jonokuchi to Makushita) start training at 4:30 a.m. These Junior Rikishi warm up on the Dohyo (ring) by themselves until a Oyakata or a coach arrives. When either of the 2 arrive, they must offer a proper and respectful greeting. At about 8:00 A.M., the Sekitori (Juryo and Makkuchi) start practice. Practice lasts until about 12:00 p.m.
Here's some of the examples of the exercises that Rikishi do.

Shiko: A stomping exercise that is great for developing hip and leg strength, which is crucial in Sumo. Most Rikishi do about 500 a day.

Teppo: A pushing exercise for the arms and shoulders. This exercise is done against a large wooden pole. A rikishi faces it and strikes it with the palms of his hands.

Suriashi: Another leg strengthner, is performed in a crouching position with the hands bent at the elbows. The rikishi slides his feet forward, alternating legs.

Matawari: A streching exercise, where a rikishi sits on the floor with his legs as far apart as possible, and then leans forward until his stomach touches the floor. Usually they require assitance, so, another rikishi will push him down farther or hold his legs apart.

Challenge Matches: These matches take place after warming up. They are just like the bouts you watch in tournaments, without the ceremonies. This is also a opportunity for lower ranked rikishi to challenge higher-ranked rikishi.

Sanban-geiko: A type of stamina training where two rikishi can challenge each other for a series of matches.

Butsukari-geiko: This exercise is when one rikishi runs into another and pushes him to the edge of the Dohyo. Usually, the pushee will throw the attacker down so he can practice falling properly.

As for golf... that statement is WAY off

Pros train 6-10 hours a day EVERYDAY! Yea Yea it's not a high impact sport maybe but certainly needs LOTS of stamina... I assure you

Myself when I see one that has Athletic on their profile what comes to thought to me is they work out regular and in good shape.

I don't assume they are body builders or look like one which to me is a category of their own. Now if they listed body builder then I would assume they looked more like the pictures you posted.

But to me Athletic is one that works out regular one that their body is toned with a few muscle.

I concur and I'm unanimous in my decision laugh

I agree... atheltic is someone that maintains their body type by working and having an active lifestyle... so their body is more 'hard' then 'soft'.

I consider myself athletic; especially for my age although I could certainly improve. I work out daily and eat very healthly.

The pic you posted is in the area of a pro-athlete and above an "athletic" build.

To me, an athletic build is low body fat and being toned to moderately muscular.

I consider myself athletic but I don't have a six pack. I even have a few clients who are "more muscular" than me but not necessarily more fit.

It's subjective ... you will have 100 different answers.

These pix are of me teaching yoga. I am “average” athletic.

to me athletic means more muscle mass that fat content... u do not have to work out to be muscular.. some people have the genes in them that makes them more muscular naturally than others... i am one of those people.. however.. though i am still muscular.. <because its natural> i do have way to much fat content these days.. i am about 15 lbs over what i should weigh.. at the highest weight for my height, because i am muscular and muscle weighs more than fat i was told to go to the higher weight of my height chart.. i consider myself a few extra lbs.. others say i could call myslef average to smaller which to me is rediculas because 15 lbs is more than a few! however most dont even consider me few extra lbs. in my case my few extra lbs are fat and water.... so im chubby or whatever words u want to use lol
