In high school this guy had a crush on me and he was only 2' taller than me. He was cute but got picked on all the time. Now he's a police officer and busts their ***** every day. Damn, I wish I hadn't moved. Karma is a *****!

But how does a guy know what a stranger can do with a girl? 'You won`t be able to handle her, LOL.' Where the heck does he get his knowledge, and his seemingly absolute and unassailable assurance that he's right? that's what I want to know.

This sort of thing irks me. The automatic assumption of personal superiority, the automatic entitlement of the right to condescend to someone else, AND especially in such a matter that can only be decided empirically, not a priori. (I.e. you have to go for it and try it, nobody can predict with the available information what would happen.)

i've been there.being i'm only 5'8 and i'm skinny,i'm a magnet for people wanting to start crap.it seems to be worse from my own family because i guess they think since they are family,that i won't try to defend myself but that doesn't stop me.

At age 16-17 I was a skinny boy (about 150 lbs) and I was picked on in the high school all the time. Not speaking much english was just another reason.

10 years later, with 6 years in the military and being 200lbs, I have met a few guys who used to pick on me, now suddenly I'm the guy to buy the drink for.

I agree, fighting is for chumps and very immature...

Learn to defuse the situation and no you dont have to fight anyone, unless you are being mugged or something and well you do what ya gotta do. But a bar fight, come on, as you get older and wiser, it just never happens.

Maybe evaluate where you hang out and the types of people you hang out with. There in lies the problem.

You dont ever have to raise your voice or fist to be a tough guy.

agreed. First husband was 6'4" and guys would try to get him to intercede on their part once they started fighting. He never would and I always respected him for it. Second husband was 5'6" and always seemed to have a complex about guys looking at him a certain way, etc. I just didn't see it. I've dated several guys that were short and they seem a lot quicker to fight. Maybe it's because they were picked on when they were young...I don't know.

I never started a fight in my life but i ended a few. Most of the time they will not let you just walk away unless you want to hit in the back.

Not to take anything away from your original thought process, BUT , I am 6'6" and am CONSTANTLY defusing situations where someone ALWAYS wants to "bust up " the biggest they can find..... I feel for you dude

I always had issues at the bar because I always had my Liberty Spikes up, yet I never got into a fight because I walked away or defused the situation (more often than not I just walked away and ignored them, can't defuse drunks so easily). I haven't been in a fight since I was in high school, honestly, I don't like fighting.
