Generally 'let's be friends' means I don't want to be in any type of relationship with you, when it comes to breaking up.

My suggestion is to let it go... move on... use this as a learning experience about yourself. You probably won't get the closure you seek... or the answers about it.

yeah i guessed that by now.... t.y.... i think not getting closure is the worst thing... but in the end where you really get that is in yourself by understanding it wasnt your fault and moving on.... :) thank you... i like knowing where i stand on things...

When I say 'Let's be friends' ... I really do TRULY like you VERY much and want to be friends FOREVER!

... It also means that I can't fathom a romance w/ you, I feel more like a sibling!

It is far from a brush off, if I deliver it ...

... Still, doesn't mean the man is up to the terms, esp. if he is deeply in love still!

I always wait it out, then end up w/ a best friend.

This is a HUGE, reoccurring pattern for me.

Time ... ... Cure ALL! ... flowerforyou

how come it allways seems to end bad.....

Doesn't ALWAYS end bad. Not everybody has a bad breakup. Some people just grow apart.

To be honest there is no easy way, and the idea of saying friends is just a stage in the process of letting go.

I'm friendly with an ex or 2, but not until not talking to them again until several years later, and if my being friends with an ex, make my significant other uncomfortable, I'd respect those feelings.

All residual feelings for an ex must be removed, or the grieving process is not complete.

if they tell u what they did not like about the relationship, you may agree or dissagree.. however even if you agree you may not agree about not tryng to work it out.. and they dont want to because their feelings there is no working it out.. hence... closure does not come from them telling you what went wrong.... closure comes from your heart and letting go when the time is right for you.. closure only comes from your own feelings.

even u may not feel at all there was anything wrong with what u did.. or what went wrong.. so there would be no closure anyway.. so really it doesnt make a difference... again closure only has to do with yourself and your own feelings in the end the reason always is this.... it just wasnt meant to be...

I think Buttons hit it right on. Its closure when you decide its done and over. "friends" rarely is, and holding on is just BS. If you get "dumped", as hard as it is, youv'e got to just suck it up and move on. With that said, the longer he relationship, the longer that takes.

The Relationships that end on a sour note are usually the ones that were dragged out too long.
Some unhappy Couples don't break up right away, procrastinate, and drag things out wayy too long..
End the relationship while it is still semi-sweet, but you recognize its not going to work out. Don't wait for the big fall out.

I'll second this!
