Topic: When You Don't Feel There Is Anything...

I think it's totally up to you.Would you rather sit around feeling sorry for yourself or get off yo A$$ and do somethink about it.Trust me there are people out there that would love to spend Christmas with you. It's up to you to get out there and find them.If you keep siting around waiting.....get use to it.Not everything is just gonna fall right in your lap.

Who said anything about feeling sorry for myself??

You seem to be missing my position.

I don't feel " sorry for myself ". I just don't feel anything ' happy happy joy joy " type of stuff during the holidays.

They are just more days.

Ya' know...I'm not feeling it so much in the last week either.
However, I am forced to continue on because of the kids.
In turn, this has brought me much joy.
I think sometimes you just put yourself there,
and it actually becomes a good thing.

That dude actually had a semi-good perspective.....
you can either decide it's going to be bad,
or choose the opposite and kind of jump in even though
you don't feel like it. You might be surprised and
actually enjoy some of the festivities.

I have a friend who's laying in a hospital on a ventilator
after having had a second heart attack during an angioplasty
today. It really made me re-think my mortality and the
fact that I need to make the best of the time I have left
here. It can be snatched in an instant. I'm just going to
choose to make the best of this day and wake up tomorrow
and try to do the same thing.

See...one of the major things with me is that, after my daughter was taken from me, I really had nothing to look forward to during this time of year. I wasn't all gung ho about it in the first place. But that occurrence pretty much nailed the lid shut on it for me. It's been five years since I had someone to spend the Holidays with...but even when I did...I didn't have " the spirit ".

I know there are people a lot less fortunate than I am. But that isn't something that makes ME actually give a damn about the holidays.

< shrug >

I do what I can for people. Always have. Sometimes to the point of being taken advantage of. But it doesn't really stop me.

Hugs, Heather.flowerforyou

I made a huge fuss over Christmas when my children were quite small, now that they are grown up I don't bother so much. I enjoy having them over for dinner and now, this year I am going to my son's.I suppose it is a break for me until I get grand children, then I will be on that little hamster wheel of festivities all over again!I have learnt over the years not to spend too much money for just one day and then find out that you have to wait a lenghty time before next pay day. Guy, you are no different to so many people I know who are not fussed about Christmas.

Good to know there are more like me....lol

I feel the same but in time I know when I meet someone and we celebrate Christmas it will be merry.I dream of having someone helping hanging lights:heart: all that kind of stuff.

...to celebrate the holidays...what do you do??

I haven't really felt any reason to " celebrate " in a very long time.

So that makes Christmas just a day like any other to me.

Yet, people seem to think there is something " not quite right " about me because I don't have " Holiday Spirit ".

I'm not, and never have been, a person that will just go through the motions to keep up appearances.

Don't try to be or feel anything just because other people tell you you should or make you feel like you should. It'll make you crazy. I know.

well if you're okay with it, then why bother with the thread? maybe you don't want to be alright with it? maybe affirmation that you're an okay person still, in spite of not feeling anything special?

it's a good opportunity to get out and do something for someone less fortunature and more needy than yourself. it's puts your health, mental and financial, in a more appreciative perspective and that's always a positive thing.

it might not have anything to do with celebrating the birth of christ, but it is something that christ would be proud of and if that doesn't matter, surely it's something for which you could be proud.

Okay then, quit worrying about it and let them think you are not quite right. Who cares?

I dunno. Maybe I just find it a little odd that I can't seem to muster anything in the joy department. Like I said, it's been a long time since I have been able to.

Maybe I DID need to know that I'm not some kind of freak/outcast because of it.

it's a good opportunity to get out and do something for someone less fortunature and more needy than yourself. it's puts your health, mental and financial, in a more appreciative perspective and that's always a positive thing.

As I have said, I have and do.

I think you have lots of reasons to celebrate that maybe you're not aware of. Like how talented, smart, sexy, funny and sweet you are. You are an amazing writer. You have accomplished and overcame a lot in your life. You have made wonderful friendships. You have family, friends and a good job so, there seems to be at least some reason to celebrate, but if that still doesn't get ya in the mood then you can always go with Etrain's idea and make the holidays mean something different like watchin Asian midget porn laugh

That's it!! Instead of stressing out like I always do during the holidays I can just think of Asian midget porn lol...c'mon JAG ya gotta admit that's some funny **** right there! Anyway, point being that maybe it's time you should make it mean something. It doesn't necessarily have to be about "the spirit". Make it about you and reflect on all the wonderful things in your life and be thankful. No one can force Xmas up your a$$ no matter how good their intentions are and there is nothing wrong with not being all giddy during the holidays either. People look at the holidays differently anyway. I feel the same way as what CatsLoveMe posted.

So, do whatever the he!! ya want. Feel whatever the he!! ya want.

Just one quick question...are we meeting back here Christmas Eve for the Asian midget porn viewing???
noway laugh

i didn't mean anything negative by what i said.

i'm sure there are thousands of people, like you, who are devoid of any joy at christmas.

i find that just aging in general takes away some of the magic of the season and instead it's spent bustling around trying to accomplish all the extras that need to be done. that, in itself, is quite a mood breaker.

I have definitely been called a Grinch hundreds of times..lol

The thing is, a " Grinch " wants to ruin it for everyone around him. He wants everyone else to be as miserable as he is.

I don't hold anyone's level of holiday happiness against them.

And I'm not miserable. lol

< edit >

I really do appreciate people trying to help. I have actually done the volunteer work that people have suggested. I just don't leave it for only around Christmas time.

I feel I'm on the same wavelength as you. "They" try to tell us that "we" are supposed to buck-up and have that Christmas cheer. But if we don't feel it to begin with, how are we supposed to artificially supposed to feel that way? Win the lotto, get stinkin' drunk, err...get laid? Christmas means what each of us wants it mean, not what anyone else tells us it should mean. Myself, I feel everyone has gotten derailed off the tracks of what the true meaning of Christmas is.

1) Find someone to do something kind hearted for.
2) Do it.
3) If spirit still unmoved, see #1
