Does age really matter, I mean if two people are consenting adults, what is the matter with being too old or too young? Why does it matter?
The only thing that should matter is if 2 people share the same outlook on life, have the same interests and really click, physically and mentally. Age just doesn't matter. it only matters if you make it matter! I think the people who limit themselves to those closest to their own age are limiting their possibilities of finding a soul mate, or at least a near soul mate.
what do you all think?

To some extent yes age matters, you have to be able to talk and have common life experiences. Too far either direction and it becomes creepy.

Yeah, to some extent, but what extent? who determines that? I guess I was just trying to get at why should I listen to others who have already judged I'm too old, or she is too young? I feel like they are in their own unhappy relationships and wish to spoil any chances of 2 people having a great one. They do this by making up the rule "she's too young", or "you're too old for her."

..as long as both are legal, and they are fine with it,...it doesn't matter what others think, altho the difference in age may matter to some.... for those god invented the middle finger...bigsmile

Guessing age doesn't much matter to me, rather the individual.

You can have two men, same age and yet I can find one interesting and the other not so much.

More to it than age. jmo

I guess some differences in age doesn't matter, But anything over 15 yrs difference is a bit too much. An 80yr old can't possible keep up with A 50 yr old Trish80

I prefer men around my age for the simple fact that we are of the same generation, therefore we know about and hopefully like a lot of the same things of our time frame in life.Communication is a very important ingredient in a relationship. When you are of the same age group, you tend to be able to have more fun together and "getit",when you are talking about topics such as music and what was happening when you were growing up.Just another opinion...

I liken it to rejecting someone because of their shoe size or license plate number.

And I've been saying "age doesn't matter to me" for years, but there are always those who say "Then the level of 'life experience' won't match up," as if all 42-year-old people have had the exact same life experience.

But I see profiles all the time of people who say "I'm looking for someone between 28 and 30." It's a preference; I have no problems with people having preferences. I just have to wonder sometimes about the seeming arbitrariness of the numbers.

I don't feel that age should be a factor at all, so long as there are two consenting adults involved.(And I'm not just talking "consent to sex" but also "consent to effort".) I've found both perks and disadvantages to dating older and younger people but love comes in many forms and when it does, it shouldn't be denied.

It does weigh heavily what mind set and maturity levels are involved and also what you're looking for in a relationship.
Marriage? Family? I find many young people aren't prepared, (life experience wise), in that aspect.
High seas? Mountain climbing and adventure? Depending on how old your partner is, you have to take into account certain health problems or career obligations.

On a personal level, my fiance has more than a decade on me. We like to joke about the generation gap. (He was an old school punk rocker in the early 80's and I was a mopey goth kid in the 90's.) I feel like I keep him young and playful and he keeps me focused on my priorities.
They may say that like attracts like, but it's a definite that differences intrigue.

Age does not matter.
This myth has been hard wired in to our brains from when people only lived until they were in there 30s. Back then when an older person fell for a younger person the younger person was afraid that the older person would die before them. This in turn would leave the younger person aloan to survive. Back then once you were over the age of 18 and you were not married you would not have a chance to marry. You were to worn out to have kids.
So the hard wired instinct to survive and reproduce is still working in people. Wise people over come and pervile.

AGE should not matter BUT maturity should..But I have come across MANY 20-30 somethings that were WAY more mature than some 40-50yr olds..and just because the law has determined 18+ as adult..doesn't mean they truly are where it counts.

Age doesn't matter -- size does -- but maturity matters! winking

I date guys 12-15 years younger than me. Some are mature and some are not -- just as some 50 year old guys are mature and some are not.

I find that to be the opposite for me.

I disagree…why do you “have” to have “common life experiences”?
Are you saying people cannot talk if they don’t? It seems to me, if two people have a great many things in common and too many of the same view points, conversation would be limited. I have always found that the most meaningful and lengthy conversations come when two people are sharing different points of view. I fail to see where age plays a role in this.

The bottom line is we all have our own POV, each of us has our own needs, wants and desires. There is no formula nor is there a right or wrong. It is what it is and that changes from case to case. So, if you are good with it than who gives a crap what other people think?

Society aside, it takes 2. You may not think it matters, but a girl you are trying to swoon, may think it does. Or vice versa. If you both agree it doesn't matter, then there's no problem.

To me it all is up to the two involved
as long as it does not bother them then it is no one else
business. Myself I prefer the ones closer to my age and would
not date those the same age as my kids. No ones choice but
my own....noway

i'm not in the position yet, but i bet i'd have issues if my daughter ended up dating a man 30 years her senior, or my son 20 his junior.
