An important milestone into development of Christian self-consciousness or Christian self-identity will be the emergence of the word "Christianity." This word appears for the first time in the writings of a church thinker of the early 2nd century of our era named Ignatius, who lived in Western Asia Minor, modern day Western Turkey. Ignatius in his letters is warning his flock to stay away from all sorts of theological perils out there, including Judaism and including all sorts of mistaken Christian theologies. And, in his writings, Ignatius uses the word Christianity, and he uses it ... in contrast with the word Judaism. We have here for the first time a polarity, a contrast. There is something called Judaism and there is something called Christianity, and true Christians will make sure that what they believe and what they do, is in fact Christianity and it's not Judaism. That is explicit and unambiguous for the very first time in the writings of Ignatius around the year 110 or 120 B.C....

I am curious, how many jewish posters consider themself also christian? I cant really address only one group in this forum, I have been told,, so Id love response for anyone with knowledge of the polarity or singularity of the two philosophies.

Im going to edit this with what I was taught. I was taught that a christian religion is one which believes in Christ as savior. I was taught that the Jewish thought he was merely a prophet,,making them not a Christian religion.

Ya know, theres 47 different versions of the bible all claiming to be the right one, and there is the Jewish thing as well.

While im not saying any of them are wrong (including the jew's) it's too d**ned hard to find fact thru the words of idealistic beliefs and theorys.

Myself, I believe there is a god, both religions claim Jesus was real and for that, I believe in jesus. However i am not choosing sides, bibles, ect to believe in. I pray with all my soul and love with all my heart and hope thats enough for god. If not, oh well, ive lived a good life i think. I suppose we will find the truth in death, something everyone will eventually do regardless of weather you want to or not. And thats all I have to say about that!

I don't believe any Jews believe that Jesus was a prophet (excepting Jews for Jesus). Muslims do, however.

Shalom.

I am not Jewish but conform to alot of thier ways, As did our Messiah.

The term Christian I believe was 1st used by Pagans at Antioch as a mockery. No where do you find the Apostles saying they are chr-stian.

They say they are ofthe way. Yahshua said I am the way,the truth and the life.

When calling themselves The Way they are acknologing that Yahshua was the I Am that spoke to Moses in the burning bush.

Any true Jew at the time would see this a Blasphamey as they did Yahshua and Stephen who was acknowledging who Yahshua really was and he lost his life for it.

Many miracles from Angels kept the Apostles alive because they were being arrested and thrown in jail for acknowledging Yahshua as The Way The I Am.

Ignatius I would say was a Heretict for using such a name for his Savior. We will find at the end of the 1st century a man called polycarp who it is written was Johns Disciple.

Then from him we find him having a pupil called Polycrates who both died a fiery death on a pole for refusing to denounce Yahshua as the I Am and several other customs that was creeping in to The Way.

We find in the Book of Peter writing to his son Mark who was the Head of the Assembly in Babylon calling it The Assembly of Yahweh.

The Romans had an agreement with the Persian Empire that they would not come to Babylon and they would not come into the roman Empire.

Thus it is believe that many believers ran for Babylon to seek protection from the Romans because they would be safe thier.

The Magi of Persia is who came and decieved Herod and left presents fit for a king to Yahshua and them going home to Babylon at least they gave Mary and Joseph a head start from the dream before the killing of the innocents occurred.

Thier are several supposed church fathers that was passing down the faith but i only know of Johns Disciples passing down what Yahshua truely said.

He was our example. If our mother and father don't smoke and say we do not want you to smoke either.

Are we by smoking following our example? No

Yet Billions of people who claim to be saved say what Yahshua did and how he lived his life we no longer need to do we can pick and choose as we want.

Are any of them following Yahshua's example of the pure faith that he said was from the beginning?

We are told that if it were possible that at the end the whole world would be decieved.

Yet for the Elects sake they will not be..

I have to conclude billions of people are decieved and I try to live my life as he has pardoned me from my transgressions and showed me grace.

If i turn from it as hebrews says thier is no more sacrafice for sin but a fearful death not life.

Hope you follow me on this as you ask very good heart felt question.... My people are Destroyed for Lack of Knowledge Yahweh Open the Heavens and Let it flow where your will ,will be done...Blessings...Miles

I would not be surprised if there are a good number of Jewish people who also consider themselves Christian, as 'being Jewish' is not only a matter of religious belief but also of ethnicity/heritage/family.

I've known quite a few people who self-identify as both Jewish and Atheist. They are Jewish by birth, Atheist by personal philosophy - and they participate in the rites and rituals of their Jewish culture.

I once heard a Jewish-atheist stand up comedian say that he didn't think he could be a Jew as an atheist, until another Jewish person explained to him that "as long as your mom's vagina was Jewish....then you are Jewish!"

Yahushua say "if you love me keep my Commandment"

No matter how good you think you are, or how pure you think your heart is,

If you do not have faith in the word and if you are not physically keeping the Commandments , you are still far, far , far away from ever entering into the Kinggom of Heaven.

Jews have an entirely different set of rituals, practices and customs that they follow. But the only thing that makes them not Christian is they don't believe Jesus Christ is their God and Savior.

Interestingly, there are some traditional Catholics who don't believe you can get into heaven unless you believe in Jesus as your Savior AND obey the teachings of the Catholic Church.

The more contemporary teachings of the Church, however, are moving away from that and leaning more towards just a belief in Jesus as Savior. They are not there yet, but they're slowly moving in that direction.

Isn't "Christ" an appointment derived from a Greek term that means "the anointed" or "the anointed one"?

'Cause he was just Jesus the Jew or Jesus of Nazareth before he got really popular.

I think it is important to remember that those who are Jewish do not deny the existance of Christ. IN fact, they say Christ was a militant leader. Thier denial is that Chirst was only man and not the son of God.

thank you, that was my undestanding, as stated in the OP.
One believes in Christ as savior, and the other in Christ as merely a man.

you are quite wrong. i know many a jew in jerusalem that don't believe Isa (Jesus) ever existed even though the Talmud makes a mockery of him...then there are those that will pridely say they killed him once and they'll do it again.
