because I have not been exposed to smoke for almost ten years, since I myself gave up smoking, but it really makes me feel like puking.
^not for nothing, but don't you think it kind of hypocritical, what of all the years that you smoked, did you worry about others then. My advice to you is to move, I hear they have a complex in Napa Valley where there is a no smoking policy....I love people that complain about smoking, yet use areosols and drive cars, and especially those that used to smoke, then they quit, now they expect everyone to cater to them. The tobacco industry and their customers have been taxed beyond belief to pay for everything, so you'll get no smypathy from me, either suck it up or move on....I'd love to see you outside the beer distributors boycotting americas worst drug. got a light |

What is hypocritical is to criticize someone for having a difficult time with the smoke when he rented a smoke-free apartment. If it wasn't rented as smoke free-that's another story. Second hand smoke has been proven to cause problems with those exposed to it. I speak from experience.
Drinking is definately a problem in this country, but you know you are not going out and having someone force it down your throat. The same can't be said for smoking-you're exposed not even having a choice. As far as vehicles, unless you are in a heavily populated area it is the only mode of transportation. I don't use aerosol cans thank you. No one should be told to move or suck it up. He rented a smoke-free apartment and that is what he should have- period. If you think I feel sorry for the tobacco industry and sin taxes think again. It looks like compassion is sorely missing in your post. |

compassion, lol..you know absolutely nothing about me, where I've been and what I am compassionate about. Certain things I have no compassion about tis true, especially one who complains yet when the shoe was on the other foot, it didn't bother him all that much. No choice, sorry but we all have choices, it's just some can't afford them, plus we have the choice to voice our concerns to those who are causing the discomfort, it is their choice to be compassionate and smoke outside or to ignor his plea, we can't do anything except offer our opinions, and they are like, well you know, but the one thing is we are entitled to them....Have a good day

I moved in not too long ago. This, like almost all homes in Toronto, was non-smoking. There were five guys upstairs that stepped out for a smoke when they wanted to. There was a woman who owned the house, and she had a five-year-old son and a thirty-some-odd-year-old husband. The woman and the husband split. She moved out. For a week I've been struggling with a constant nauseated feeling. Now I know why (or suspect): The guys upstairs no longer step out to smoke, they smoke "in". I did not know, because I have not been exposed to smoke for almost ten years, since I myself gave up smoking, but it really makes me feel like puking. The guy is a nice guy; he bought the house off his wife. I get along with him charmingly, the wife was a b*tchy b#tch. I gave her notice for January 31, but the guy and I sorta agreed I'll stay on. But I can't stay on in a house in which there is smoke. Cigarette smoke, nothing funny. Can I live another two months constantly on the verge of puking? If no, what should I tell the landlord? Please butt out when in? It is again a hopeless, impossible situation. Plus I already told the good news here locally to everyone that I don't have to move at the end of January, but now I have to tell them that yes, I have to move. What can I do? What would you do if I were you? Give up drama in your life. If it makes you sick, leave. If you like the place/price stay and put up with it. *sigh* no so difficult... |

Whether or not he didnt care when he smoked is a moot point. He rented a smoke-free apartment, this means no smoking in the building, if the neigherbor upstairs is smoking inside then he is breaking the rules. The smoker should it outside or he should be the on that has to move not the person that rented a smoke free apartment.

I'd talk with the other tentant first, and ask if the could go back and smoke outside like before, reminding them it's a smoke free building. If that doesn't work contact your landlord. You shouldn't have to move. And guessing this is the most civil way of handling the problem. As your your landlord, they should have in their contract,if caught smoking in building,a eviction would be served. |
