some of you might think it's all easy to figure out a scammer. Some of them quite sophisticated.

Yea some are very slick. Most of the time it is peoples own greed that gets them in trouble.

A lot of times I think people just fall for a sob story. Maybe it is because they have had hard times or just want to be seen as a hero.

Sad thing is some people actually run scams so often that they perfect their craft. I have seen welfare reciepients live way beyond their means because they have a group of people they just milk like a cash cow. Some think that they are not getting taken because they are sending gifts or giving things but they sell off stuff even if it is pennies on the dollar it is free money to them so they don't care. Sometimes they brag about amoung others that do the same thing even. That's how most of the welfare frauds get caught. Someone gets mad and tells on them.

Scammers usually have a needy story. When someone is totally focusing on their hardships, with hints of needing help.Suggest State programs.
And I'm sure we all have had the e/mails and im's ,i'm in love in 10 mins..Red Flag!!! REPORT them to the site.

i agree that people need to become more aware of the signs of a scammer/player.

however, i like when they post in the forums; it makes it interesting and entertaining.

I encounter a scammer at least once a week. I just called one out a couple days ago. Unfortunately it was in an open forum...so I got reprimanded. Thing is...I couldn't believe that people were buyin' his B.S. Scammers only exist if people are gullible enough to get scammed...

there are a lot of scammers who are quite good at it.

then again, there are those who are not. either that, or they just come across as plain old creepy.

You can tell by how they write. The govt. had a site that tells ya' how to spot em'. There's actually a consistent pattern in how they operate.

I dont get regular email much less emails from scammers

I do get instant messenger messages, stating they saw my profile here and want to meet me - of course I turn the tables and type nonstop about my woes, miseries, needs, wants, my husband, the 10 kids, my money problems, the open case I have with the law, etc. etc.

guess I kinda get them tired, because they normally dont write me back

Most of these scammers are obvious, but they pretty much work the same.. Oh,how I adore you, beautiful/handsome one... and they are whatever you want them to be... I am fully active, but can be lazy too.. They usually have a great job... or are retired and would love to take care of you and travel.. they love all kinds of music, they are either a man from united state or woman from united state..(that is usually how they say it and spell it) They either just divorced or woo's me are recently widowed.. but they have a daughter or son who is the love of their life...

Now they connect to you in a aggressive fashion, I can't live without you, Your the moon to my night, I knew you existed if only we could be closer, yes I'm a man from United State but I am currently in Africa my mother died leaving me inheritance... But the Government won't release to me until I give them 2,000 us dollars the inheritance is worth 1 million united state dollars, I will pay back if I could barrow, also my daughter/son are in hospital back in United State for brain surgery I need to get home soon please help me. I love you. and can't live without you.

Sincerely much love and happiness, blessings and gestures of affection.. TOM, Dick or Tracy....

WTF... but sad truth is some ppl actually fall for it.. DON'T GIVE PPL YOUR MONEY!!!

Scammers are NOT limited to outside the USA, just be aware listen to the "red flags" they are there for a reason....Listen! (It saved my heart, recently!!)

recently I joined mingle 2 mingle because friends thought I should find some friends. The first person to contact me here had an email address. i understand now that what he put me through is the Ghana scam, same as nigerian scam. Thank god I was not taken to the cleaners but I did learn a valuable lesson. I also noticed that another one or maybe same one did same as him. As soon as he contacted me then they deactify their accounts. just thought you should know. I hope mingle will in future try to block people like him. Liz

There are scammers online ever where. Mingle works very hard to get rid of them, but you have to report them. We can't catch them all and we rely on the members.

you can report them on their profile (to the right of the main picture) or through emails and IMs.

But you need to report them ASAP so we can investigate it
