Biblical prohecy

Job 26:7 (ESV)
7 He stretches out the north over the void
and hangs the earth on nothing

"[God] hangeth the earth on nothing." What a remarkable statement of fact before we had telescopes or space travel or anything that could
have uncovered the fact.

Proverbs 8:27 (ESV)
27 When he established the heavens, I was there;
when he drew a circle on the face of the deep

that the earth was round , before science uncovered the fact

Psalm 18:15 (NIV)
15 The valleys of the sea were exposed
and the foundations of the earth laid bare
at your rebuke, O Lord,
at the blast of breath from your nostrils.

that the seas had valleys, before science had proven it to be so

----------------------------------------------------------------
these seem to be pretty accurate portrayals of things that
there was no technology to prove at the time. I consider them
some of the prophetic things in the bible...

For my christian friends, do you believe we still have
prophets amongst us?

Excelent points, although nowhere near the full extent of what was said to man so long ago.

Things as simple as washing were said over and over. What was safe to eat and what wasn't. To not mix blood.

Until quite recently, there were no explanations as to why some of those things were written. The discovery of bacteria is a perfect example of why cleaning things are prudent. It was in the 1940's I believe, when the dangers of pork were discovered. And modern medicine has discovered the dangers of mixing blood, both litteraly and metaphorically as in procreation. Blood-bourne illnesses and the dangers of birth defects shed light as to why those things were written.

Those who wish to refute the validity of the Bible may claim that science doesn't support what is written, but it is clear to me that the Bible supports science in so many different facets.

For my christian friends, do you believe we still have
prophets amongst us?

Yes, I believe in modern-day prophets. There is however, a difference between a "true prophet" and a "false prophet".
I believe the prophecy that Christians will be ridiculed and persecuted as it is written. Just take a look around and you will see what I mean.

You'll probably get more responses on this if you post in the Christian Singles. flowerforyou

why would she post this in Christian Singles? This isn't a thread looking for someone it's just a post bout the prophecies.

Relax, cowboy. I personally don't care where it gets posted. However, the forum rules state that if you are posting a thread that is meant to elicit resposes from a specific religion then you are supposed to post in that forum and not in the GR forum.

I actually don't care for this rule and was only offering a suggestion as a way to get more responses. Many Christians don't read or participate in the GR forum because of all the fighting. But, they do read and participate in the Christian Singles forum. The Christian Singles forum is not a forum for "looking for someone" it is a forum to discuss Christianity among Christians.

Finally, I am sick of Christians and those sympathetic to Christianity reading into my posts, or more often, not reading my posts completely and assuming they are anti-Christian. I am not Christian and I sometimes express my disagreements with the Christian faith. However, I have never attacked the Bible or Christians and rarely do I even say anything negative about Christianity in general except as a historical fact and even then I try to do it as to not be offensive. So back off!

I posted here because it is a topic about general religion, I addressed Christians because I wanted debate about prophets as it pertained to the bible and did not want to get into semantics wars with certain non believers. I could open the question to everyone but I fear it would get well off topic...

I was just trying to help. Like I said, I don't care where you post. But, just so you know.....here are the rules about this specifically:

Also, topics which are designated for response exclusively from one religion or belief system, or which may cause that type of polarization, will be deleted. The concept behind these forums is to encourage anyone to participate and post their opinions and thoughts as long as they are on-topic. Topics which do not adhere to that philosophy will be removed, and the poster may lose his/her posting privileges.

Thanx, I see your point. I guess I will open the question up to all and just reserve my right not to respond to those I feel are trying to be disruptive.

There are people who come into the GR forum just to argue and be disruptive. I try to just ignore them. Sometimes it's hard not to get sucked in by them. I get sucked in from time to time to. But, they are just trying to cause trouble. Best to not respond to them.

for some reason I don't see the "christian singles"

this is the only one I get

actually I think it would be kind cool to be able to discuss other religions with their adherents

I would like to know a bit more about Hinduism and Krishna

and be able to discuss the Koran with Muslims or the Torah with Jews

but I realize that most people seem bent on either bashing or proselytizing so that any real discussion is next to impossible so they keep em segregated from those types

its a shame

I agree. I personally wish they hadn't split up the forums. I like discussing all religions. But a few have ruined it for the rest of us.

You have "no answer" for your religion. That's why.

oh

I wondered

but that is my religion I guess, "no answer"

I have "Other" so I can see GR and Other Religions. But, I can't see Christian Singles or any other religion forum. If you don't have that religion posted in your profile then you are not even allowed to post in them at all.

I am truthfully ignorant about such religions, without any real knowledge beyond what they taught in Religion class at college...

Id love to hear from those who follow these teachings as well, there is room enough for all of us

I am not a Jew or a Chr-stian.. I fall closer to a jew I believe. I believe in the Messiah and the New Testament. But I do not believe anything was changed untill 70 ad when the Temple was destroyed and this ended Temple sacrafices as we can see paul sacraficinng long after the messiah's death in Acts 21.

I will be happy to answer any questions about my life...Shalom...Miles

I could speak on many different faiths, as I have studied numerous sacred texts from a wide variety of religions in my own quest for what I believe.
