Standardize test are usually inaccurate at measuring things. Some IQ tests have been proven to be culturally biased. And 'common sense' has nothing to do with intelligence. I've known quite a few "book smart" people with no common sense at all. Have we met? I resemble this remark. But in my defense, it's very hard to develop social skills when you have your head buried in a book trying to gain knowledge. Ergo, I didn't develep common sense but I'm intellectual. Hmmmm...some tradeoff. |

some people are smarter at knowing something more than the other, but are clueless on other things.
example:a doctor knows the medical field but throw him a blueprint of a building he would be clueless theres people who made A's and graduated college that are what society labels them as losers so to me yes their are stupid people walking this earth, but are they stupid cause they don't know everything you know,or you just label them that? i pick the first one |

As each generation, comes in to play with the world, we lack common sence. Not sure who to blame, so we are acountable for our own actions.
As a parent to a 23 yr old in collage,I try to relate to his lifestyle,as well I can see some common sence. As you get older you gain, more info on your mistakes.Which in turn you gain hopefully more common sence.... |

Yes, they are two different things, but one leads to the other. You develop commom sense by experiencing the world, in other words, socializing. |

Common sense is sound judgment not based on specialized knowledge; native good judgment.
We all lack common sense at times. But, there are people who are very intelligent and can do amazing things intellectually but cannot manage their own lives. |

well if a doctor is having a house built and you show him a designed floor plan and he's like whats this and whats that, afterwards he leaves more than likely the designer is going to laugh and say"what an idiot" That says a lot more about the designer than the doctor. |

and are we stupid for not using common sense on voting for stupid politicians? Who we vote for is not generally based on intelligence as much as it is on the amount of time we spend educating ourselves on the issues and the candidates. That, and our previously held religious and cultural beliefs. And, again, common sense does not equal a high IQ. I thought we were equating a high IQ with the terms "smart" and "stupid". Which are not good terms, but they serve a purpose for this conversation. |
