When you were only one, you were as bigs a beach ball.
I would set you up in the middle of the sofa,,,and watch your big
smiling face,,giggles,,as you would s-l-o-wly fall over to one side,
I would be splitting a gut as I then would raise you back up,,and then hearing your giggles,,,I'd crack-up even more.
Just two,,and down with the flu, so I put you in our bed to be safe,
I was still a new daddy and I was scared you might choke,,,,
Then it took us a month, to get you to be not be crying,
back in your bed,,,,lol,,lessons learned...wink
At about five, you fell down the stairs,,,Scared me to death, but you
cried then when feeling safe,,started that giggle that was just YOU.
at about ten,,I had to have that long talk, about that neighbors boy who traded his dad's Babe Ruth rookie card for your Johnny Bench card,,wink, You didn't want to give it back,,and we talked about why it had to go back..
Then the time you took the pipe and whacked the neighbor's little girl,,,,yes she was much older and mean, but it still wasn't the right choice to do,,Lil
Then son, when you were just barely fourteen, and your friend took his life, we shared many tears as I couldn't really explain, how or why he did such a thing. We just knew he had more in on his mind,
that we nerve knew, and he was with GOD now,,and at peace with life.
The time at fifteen, when the silly lady down the street, let you and Cory borrow her car to drive around, when Becky came to the door that night and told me you'd been in a wreck,,and she took me to that scene,,,,son,,,when I saw the car in flames the panic that went through me,not knowing if you or him were still in it....
I lost ten years off my living that night, but seeing you standing there with blood all over you, in shock,,,arm broken, knee cap ripped apart,,,,I THANKED GOD,,,RIGHT THERE AND THEN,,,because YOU WERE STILL ALIVE......
Graduation,,when you and your now, wife Tara,,,made prom Queen and King,,,I felt so happy for you both, and I felt so proud of you knowing that your fellow students felt that honor for you both..
When your told me you wanted to be a police officer,,and I asked you why?
You told me you wanted to protect people from bad people,,and told me the story of your friends,,you were only sixteen then and I was really hoping you might have changed your mind, lol.
But nope,,,,you went to college and paced your goals,,
Then the Police Academy,,,,,and on THAT graduation son,,,
as you stood so proud to read your oath,,,I felt your honor in all your words, and wiped my own tears off my face,,as you read them off.
I still remember that one short pause you made,,,as your dad, I knew THAT,,,was your own tears fighting to come out,,,
THAT was your moment Chris,,,,and it now your life...
I hope and PRAY that GOD keeps you always safe from harm, and to always know your heart, to give you the courage to stand tall
and remember that truth and dignity is shown to others through all that you do....YOU make THIS DAD VERY PROUD.....
I LOVE YOU MAN,,,,,HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY THIRTY YEAR OLD, TODAY, CHRIS,, My SON..and my best friend, wink,, LETS PARTY TONIGHT,,,,
