Scientist shocked that people lie on dating sites Short and fat people lie more By Nick Farrell Friday, 2 February 2007, 07:53 A BOFFIN writing for Scientific American has come up with the staggering news that people tell porkies when they write their profiles for online dating agencies. Robert Epstein said that more than 90 per cent of online daters lie about something in their profiles. He points to research from Michigan State University which shows that the shorter and heavier people tend to tell bigger lies about themselves. Men tend to overestimate their height by about an inch and women understate their weight more as they get older. A woman in her 20s will take off five pounds, while a woman in her 30s will subtract 17 pounds. Surprisingly, only 13 per cent of men will be married and say they are single, but they will lie about their educational level, income, height, and age. Women will lie about their weight, physical appearance and age. Epstein's research confirms that people who do not post a picture are wasting their time as no-one bothers looking at those who don't. He thought it interesting that only one per cent of people thought they were unattractive. Apparently watch for women who say their ages are 29 or between the ages of 30 and 34. For some reason there is a spike in the number of people who claim to be this age which is unlikely statistically. Epstein thinks this is because people who claim those ages are more frequently making it up. Certain numerical ages are especially appealing, presumably because our culture attaches less stigma to those ages, he said. ......... ...Now You Know....

Today I just figured out that I actually add to my weight when they ask me what I weigh... I tell everyone "between 210-215lbs" I don't know I don't measure it. So it comes down that today I measured myself and I weight 200lbs.

Say it ain't so!!! Having met two men from here-one did lie about his age on his profile and in person admitted to being even older than the fake age he had listed. He also posted an old picture. The other didn't lie but was only here temporarily and was leaving for Turkey in a month(that is unless I decided to be his girlfriend) Oh, that's right. I'm not 47, only 34 and I'm only a size 4.

Say it ain't so!!! Having met two men from here-one did lie about his age on his profile and in person admitted to being even older than the fake age he had listed. He also posted an old picture. The other didn't lie but was only here temporarily and was leaving for Turkey in a month(that is unless I decided to be his girlfriend) Oh, that's right. I'm not 47, only 34 and I'm only a size 4. I tell everyone that I look older than 34, but deep down I'm only 12.

...and only one percent know they're unattractive..i guess the liing don't just stop at the profiles,but that alot of you are liing to yourselves..thank god i know i'm good looking.. ..and no one looks at my non-pictured profile..ya don't say..didn't have to be a scientist in order for me to figure that out..

Staggering indeed!!!! I'm glad to see that scientists are putting money to good use. I think they can file this under the "No Sh@t Sherlock" files.

It's comfy and warm. I also look good enough for myself time to time, other times I look like crap. Like if you would wake me up at 4 in the morning, I can look very bad, downright scary. Sometimes I jump when i see myself in the mirror, and I wouldn't wanna see myself with the lights off.

With my real pic I get maybe 1 or 2 views a week. With the fake pic I put up the other night I got about 20 in one night and a couple emails. I guess that's why people lie.
