If you purposefully do not answer the telephone when your bf/gf calls because your are not in the mood to talk to them is this a form of lying? (Note:You can see thieir name in your caller ID)

Hmm good question. I've never avoided a phone call from a girl friend.

I haven't done that unless we've been in an argument and I've stated I want time to cool off...

Lying....no. An incoming phone call does not obligate me to answer/talk. If i answer when I am NOT in the mood, isn't that like saying I am in the mood because i answered and therefore want to talk to that person....isn't that more like lying?

I don't avoid the call.

If I can I answer it, and if I am not in the mood to talk or busy or whatever, I let them know.

If I am busy and can't answer the phone, I will call back when I am able.

Don't know if it's lying...but definitely a form of immaturity! laugh

Everyone I know already knows that if I don't pick up, I'm either busy or exhausted. It's not that big of a deal. I don't see it as lying or immature. It's just normal to need a break from everything sometimes.

I can't recall a time that I have not picked up when one has called me. But at times I have actually not picked up when I have received a call due to I was asleep or just did not want to talk to that person at that particular time. But then would call them back later when I had time.

But lying hummm not unless they asked you about it and you denied you knew they called and you in fact refused to pick it up.

I don't avoid calls. If I don't answer, it's because I was busy or didn't hear the phone.

good question. i do that sometimes too.

another question one might ask is, when they call back later and say they tried calling earlier but didn't get you, what do you say then? do you say you saw but you weren't in the mood to talk to them? or do you lie?

The only way I can see this as a lie is if he states into the machine I know you are there and not picking up. Then by a very far fling this can be construed as a lie.

I personally love my voice mail, I do have caller ID and I shut it off alot and let my voice mail pick up if I am busy whatever.

Have I done this to a BF before yes... I have,, when they have called me already 3 or 4 times with nothing to say except "Hi what are you doing?"...

Good question Jasmine. I think if you say "I was not home" or "I must have been outside walking the dog when you called" then it is a lie.
If you say I was not in the mood to talk you are closer to telling the truth.

I am on the phone ALL day working..last thing I want to do when I don't have to. No boyfriend to call me right now..hopefully when that happens I can just pick the phone up and say "come over...talk when ya get here".

One of the scariest sounds I know is that ringer going off and silently, sullenly knowing nobody's gonna pick up.

But I've used this as an opportunity to leave some awesome voicemails.

I've never done that, so I don't know. I'm always eager to talk to them so I'd never ignore the call.

I am if they have something to say and well to be honest when I am avoiding the calls is usually when I have ran out of things to say. That is one of the first clues that we aren't going to make it.

I DON'T want to run out of things to say...
