My diet is going fine folks . I tried to reduce calories drastically and when I started feeling dizzy sometimes I just added more to the plate . My cardiologist asked me to diet to lose weight because I have high blood pressure and high cholesterol . He is a very good cardiologist . He gave me a paper that says what I should eat and not eat but I can not follow it as I do not like weighing every piece of food I put in my mouth . I think the best seasons to diet are the Fall ( Autumn ) and Winter . Summer is the hardest .

Keep up the good work. bigsmile

I've made no progress since Thanksgiving. frown

My cardiologist asked me to diet to lose weight because I have high blood pressure and high cholesterol .

This is *part* of the reason why I went to my diet - however, I always wanted to go back to being vegetarian, and this was as good a reason as any. I don't need cholesterol medicine any longer, and my blood pressure is much lower. It works.

What I learned about diet is the fact the more I put my focus on it the less hungry I feel . I do not feel hungry or thirsty but If I do not eat properly I feel weak and sometimes dizzy . I think it is all controlled by the brain and if say enough is enough diet becomes easy for you .

A good diet for a person like you might be a keto diet, for most people it takes the ease of dieting as your brain starts utilizing fat for energy.

If you are dizzy your body is telling you something is wrong.

Improveing your diet is good if you don't go overboard.

Lot of times there are reasonable substitutes that can reduce calories without sacrificeing flavor. Pumpkin custard versus pie, sugar free beverages, yogurt instead of mayonaisse in many reciepes, just reading lables can help by buying the lower calorie version, even the way you cook things;baked not fried and steamed not boiled which generally just washes away flavor and food value.

The best thing is finding something you enjoy to increase activity. Starting modest so you don't make yourself sore, miserable, or broke. Simple things like walking, dancing, playing music, singing, gardening, painting, wood finishing, camping, or collecting something that requires searching, participateing in making a parade float or play. Volunteering any number of places. If you are busy you are not stuffing your face.

Limiting sedentary activities. Have a quota of tv and computer time can help a lot.

Treating mental health issues. Being depressed, obsessive, haveing something that bugs you can tear down your best efforts at overall health.

Finding another way to pamper yourself than food. Everyone deserves kindnesses but food can really punish more than comfort. If you cut junk food out of your food budget you can afford some really nice jewlery, tools, or hobbies.

Get rid of your fat clothes. It is really easier to resist when the clothes set boundries. Same goes for those monster size dishes that cook for a crowd when a crowd doesn't exist. If largess is around you are bound to eat more than you expect.

What is a keto diet ?.

It is a very extreame very closely measured diet that has had some success in treating epilepsy. It is controvertial and should only be used under the strict constant support of a primary care physician.

Here's a link to the diet via Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ketogenic_diet

It does look effective, but I'm thinking that it won't be for you just for the following (it is from the "Adverse Effects" section of the link above):

Cholesterol may increase by around 30%.

If I recall correctly, you're trying to reduce your cholesterol ...

You have no idea what you are talking about, keto diet done under the support of a physician?? hahahahah!!! Yeah, maybe if you are hypoglycemic or an extreme diabetic.

A keto diet is a diet made up of very little to no carbs, protein and fats are the majority of your food intake. Many benefits, you are not eating carbs so you are not fighting a fat storing hormone insulin, since your body is getting very little (trace) amounts of carbs your body will focus on burning more fat as energy, instead of depleting glycogen levels like in a standard diet. Another benefit is lack of hunger and more energy do to the fact that blood sugar stays more level.

Any questions?

I am on diet trying to lose weight . Can you share some of your experiences with losing weight or just join me in this struggle

^bottom line is diets are ineffective without an exercise program, it takes little effort to lose weight with all the drugs, but you must work to keep it off....eating healthy is always good, but physical conditioning can only enhance it.

I found that I have lost about 10lbs over this past week and a half, due to a bad case of the flu, but I would not recommend it to anyone, it's left me feeling quite weak.

To me, dieting is just changing your diet to something healthier. I eat way more than I used to and I'm losing weight... it's all about what goes in. I try to avoid red meats and stick with chicken and fish at dinner but I'll eat roast beef or something for lunch. you just have to balance. if you get hungry, go chow a handful of fruits or veggies that are high in fiber so you feel full. That was my biggest hurdle but now, I've cut the amounts I eat by a lot but I eat every couple hours. I went to In-N-Out last weekend and could barely get a double double and fries in me whereas before, i'd get a 3x3 fries and a big shake.

however, even changing my diet didn't change how I feel. Once I started riding again, I had all sorts of energy... I forgot how good it feels when I work out. Now I'm three months in and 25 pounds down with 40 more to go by summer.

I cant believe this was never really brought up? What is your diet exactly? How much are you eating? How much are you working out?
Most people that diet don't understand the body and just think they can go really low calorie and lose weight. They do for a few days and then stop and wonder whats going on.

Another thing you need to know is that there are healthy carbs and healthy fats. They are both important.

Here are my tips to you.

Eat more often. You want to eat 5-6 times a day. By constantly eating throughout the day you will get your metabolism working to its peek. You will eat less at one sitting and it will help you from over eating. (I like turkey sandwiches.. 19g protien about 4g of fat and around 220 calories with 2 pieces of turkey 1 slice cheese on whole wheat bread with no preservs.. and mustard)

Read Lables. Stay away from HFC (hydrogenated oils) and transfats. They are unnatural and your body cant digest them as well. Lots of other stuff too that you can read up on about them. Try to learn the calories and g of fat in what you eat most often.

Drink lots of water (cold). Your body needs the water, plus the colder the water the more you body has to heat it up. We all know heat transfers and heat is energy and calories are your bodies source of energy. 1 calorie is the amount of energy it takes to raise 1 kg of water 1 degree C. You will burn calories just warming up the water and water has 0 calories.

Lift weights. I don't care if you are a woman, as nike says just do it. You don' have the necessary hormones to get bulky like a man can. Lifting weights will slim you down, take off inches, and add lean muscle which will burn more calories. I suggest doing a full body circuit routine 3 times a week. It should take about 30 minutes.

Cardio is a go. Read up on doing HIITs (high intensity interval training) There is stuff about it all over the web. Takes less time, adds more endurance, burns more fat, and burns less muscle than steady state cardio.

Calorie cycle. For the days you want to go low on calories. Do not go more than 500-700 under your maintain caloric intake. Also, do not go on this low calorie diet for more than 3 days in a row. It takes about 4 days for you body to adjust to a calorie change. Once it adjusts to the low calorie diet your metabolism will slow down and start storing fat because it thinks there is a food shortage. Thats why you go low calorie for about 3 days then back to your normal calorie diet for about 4-5 and repeat.
