Some people claim that they love philosophy but they are not interested in politics . I just wonder how they can arrive to this conclusion . Philosophy is the search fro the truth by means of logic . Since politics is full of lies, deception and manipulation how can one be not interested in seeking the truth there as well ?.

Excellent point and one I've often wondered about myself.

Although I think in my own case (as I consider myself one of those who is "not interested in politics") I see it as being interested in "political philosophy" and not so much interested in the "machinations of politicians", if you know what I mean.

it is an excellent point. i'm enterested in neither. go my own way in both cases. philosophy is a personal thing to me. and when one aligns himself with a political party, he becomes part of the problem. the parties feed on membership so when you join you feed the partisan monsters.

Well, there may be some confusion in this area.

For example, from a purely contemplative point of view I have equal interests in philosophy and politics. In other words I can offer philosophies concerning what I would consider to be an ideal social structure.

However, in reality, such idealism would be impossible because people are typically never on the same page. It's extremely rare, if not impossible, to find a group of people who are all interested in the same type of lifestyle and who hold the same ethical values. So when applying politics in practice it becomes nothing more than the art of making tradeoffs and concessions. Politics is instantly deteriorated into nothing more than mediating between opposing groups.

Do I have an interest in becoming a mediator between opposing groups?

No, I don't.

So in theory, I have political views.

But in practice, I want nothing to do with politics.

i'd like to see a new sort of politics take shape, one made out of and exemplifying love, light, and oneness between all living things. (not beastiality, just an unconditional compassion really.)

I don't see philosophy having anything to do with what we view as politics of today. When a person starts out in politics they may have good intentions but if they get very far up the ladder, it all becomes a show and a corrupt one at that. The higher up you go... the more corrupt it gets. Politics and Law, (being a lawyer) are probably the most frustrating occupations a person can have if they are trying to get to the top of their field.

Don't you think that humanism and pacifism are close enough to what you want to see ?.

Truly. You'll never find the truth in political matters. And, if you did, you'd be killed. I'm not joking.
