what is that dating site....i wanna join!!!!!!

In my opinion though, I would guess some of the psychology about would depend on the men's sexual desire at the time of the rating. It seems many men will iniate a sexual encounter with anyone if aroused enough.

This is a funny post. Do you really think how desperate a man is changes the way he views a woman's beauty? It doesn't. Yes, he may sleep with a woman that would usually be below his standards when horny, but women do that too.

I would tell you the site, but the mods likely wouldn't like it "ok"?

Well, i can respond from my perspective...

As a man, I do in fact find most women attractive in some way (likely due to the fact that I am heterosexual). I think it is male human nature to be accepting of most women because of our role in procreating the species.

Women, on the other hand - seek out the "best" male candidates for procreation - and thereby are mose selective on looks, strong features and confidence...

Some poeple do not like to look at it this way, but the man's role in the species is to procreate with as many females as possible, and the womans role is to select a male that shows the best genetic traits...

all of this is directed toward survival of the species...

eh, just my $.02...

I was reading the blog from another free dating site and come across something very interesting. They were attempting to quantify good looks. We all know it matters, but how much does it really matter?

So, they first asked men and women to rate each other's photos. The first interesting thing to come up was that men generally rated most women higher than average. In this case average would be a rating of 3, while 5 is very attractive and 1 is ugly. Some 65% of the women were rated as above average in looks.

For all the bellyaching women do about men not finding real women attractive because of movies, models and photoshop, men are very generous in their rating of women's attractiveness.

The women were much harsher. They rated more than 80% of men as being below average in looks. In the blog they suggested perhaps many women have convinced themselves there are no men good enough for them.

Any thoughts?

I don't think this really makes a difference. Good looks are subjective and don't mean a whole lot in the long run.

So many have missed the point. I found it interesting that the majority of women rate the majority of men as having below average looks. It simply isn't possible for this to be true. Some men are going to be better looking and some will be less attractive and some will fall in the center. For women to rate 80% as being below average is ludicrous! I feel it says more about the women doing the rating than it does about the men being rated.

I'm not asking about anyone's personal opinion on men's looks. I started this to discuss the study and the results.

I don't really see any importance in the study.

That's because you (and a lot of other women it seems) want to think it isn't true. You want to believe women aren't like this. But, they are.

There are more than a few egg head types that thought it was important. I learned about the study listening to NPR. For those that may not know NPR (National Public Radio) they don't report BS. They are one of the most respected news stations on radio.

The women on dating sites are usually better looking than the men. And I say this in a truly non-lesbian way, just my observation, based on what I consider attractive.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a person or a place is worth a thousand pictures. A snap-shot is just that, a snap-shot, and does not fully illustrate the type of person he or she is, even in the physical sense. In the realm of photography, so many variables are present that can make or break a good pic of someone. Lighting, wind-swept hair, angle, the clothes they have on at the time, make-up or no make-up, even their facial expression at that particular moment can mean light-years difference in the aesthetic quality of a photo.

Lets just face it....The female body is much sexier and more desireable than the Male form.

Perhaps thats just my non lesbo opinion.

I think the female form is much sexier and hotter than the male. can't say thats why your research on the dating sites have swayed this way...but it could be a factor.

and who exactly are voting for those photos anyway?

are you certain that all voters were of the opposite sex of the pictured person?

I'm curious....

I agree. Good question about who's doing the voting, it'd be interesting to find out that men were voting against the men.laugh

Just not enough information here about how the survey for me...questions of validity, bias, survey population...and more. Certainly can't draw any conclusions about whether 80% of the men were or weren't "below average" in looks, according to the survey participants...Again, how many people? Men and women? Interesting concept...question...issue...just need a little more info to determine whether it is reflective of a reasonable population.

The site doing the study looked at women's votes on men and on women as well as men's votes for both.

This is the kind of study people that do this kind of stuff dream of because they are getting what people REALLY do instead of what they SAY they do. Another good example is when asked what TV shows people watch they say they watch the high brow news on public TV. But, the Nealson ratings say differently.

If anyone is interested in reading this study send me a message and I'll give you the address.

I saw photos of the men that were rated below average. Trust me, they were very good looking, young men. Well dressed with athletic bodies and well groomed.

One more thing I've noticed from personal experience. I used to be on a site that allowed you to see who rated you and what rating they gave you. I thought it interesting that the more unattractive a woman was the lower rating she gave me and th more attractive she was the higher the rating.

When I say unattractive I am talking more than 100 pounds over weight. I don't care what you personally like a woman that size is simply less attractive than one with a fit healthy body.
