A bit like folks in Britain camping out for over a week on the doorsteps of John Lewis',Debenhams, Selfridges and Harrods for the reduction on bone china, the latest craze in toys for their kids etc............. CRAZZZZZY!!! laugh laugh

You do it there too? I did not know that..

It is only recently that this trend has become popular,in the past people geared up for the Boxing Day, New Year, end of season, end of line and summer sales. Now it seems there is a sale for every season and every reason wherever you go.The latest craze has been "The Credit Crunch Sales" laugh laugh laugh

I get just as good deals buying my Christmas presents online,
and delivered to my doorstep...

yeah.. I don't really celebrate Christmas the traditional way...
I do get a few things for my boys, I do it that way to.

I sell the majority of my wares online, it would be somewhat hypocritical to not buy online....not to mention dangerous today!

Rise n' shine early
head out the door
quickly many feet
pacing the floor

very long lines
and crowded stores
not enticing to me
I'd rather do chores

Well, I have never done the early Black Friday experience...never wanted anything that badly, I guess. But it doesn't bother me that some people do. Yeah, someone always gets hurt in some incident somewhere...and sadly one killed last year as someone here noted.noway But crazy stuff happens every day, everywhere for crazy reasons. It's relatively harmless for millions of people who venture out for what appear to be bargains...or simply hard-to-find items. I try not to rain on anyone else's parade...Macy's or otherwise! laugh My mother called this morning...she was 92 Tuesday, and lives in The Villages in central Florida...she was waiting at 4 A.M. to get in a store called Belk's (a department and clothing store). I asked her what possessed her to go to a store at 4 A.M.? She said, "They had those expensive socks you like that are usually $20 on sale for $5. I got you six pairs." She was happy.
We told her yesterday about our marriage plans. "You always need socks," she added. Done.
So, I'm ridiculously happy with the woman of my dreams. I'm 60 years old...healthy...happy...in love. And I've got new socks! happy Life is good! And I didn't have to get up early to shop.

I was dating my ex-wife and she was working at K-Mart. Now, this was back in 1996, and I remember pulling into the K-Mart parking lot at 4:30 in the morning. I believe at this time the Talking Bubba bears were all the rage, and people had to get one for there kids. Not only that, but the store had a 32 inch tv on sale for dirt cheap, which brought out alot of people.

Anyways, as we are walking up to the door, people started to yell at us because they thought we were cutting in line. I mean, those people were rabid. My ex showed them her smock and they chilled, but then they all looked at me like I was the enemy. I just smiled, walked in with her, and turned to see them yelling. They were so pissed that I went in and they knew I wasn't an employee.laugh laugh

Ok, so the store opens, and I mean chaos erupted the moment those doors were unlocked. The tv's that were on sale? The store had 20 of them....and they were gone within like 30 seconds. So alot of customers who didn't get one became irate, and K-Mart would not do any rainchecks. But that wasn't the best part. This dude has a cart and is loading a tv into his cart. He places it in the cart, and as he does, this lady comes flying in and takes the cart. laugh laugh

Dude ran her down and tackled her. It was classic.laugh laugh

I participated in the insanity once, probably about 12 yrs ago. The kid was young and all he wanted from Santa was this Tornado Blowout race car set which every little boy wanted. Money was tight and it was on sale at Toys R Us and I went early knowing they'd sell out quick. I got there and the display shelf was empty of course and I was so bummed. I snag an employee and ask if there's anything in the back and he just laughs hysterically. Great! He checks the computer and informs me they're sold out. Beautiful.

I'm about to leave and I spot a cardboard box stacked way up on the top shelf that has the Hot Wheels Logo and...Tornado Blowout written on it. No way I'm that lucky. The dude's gone by now so I grab the nearest latter and crawl my arse up there. Score!!! There are 4 sets in the box and I'm at the top cheering. Some guy saw my enthusiasm and realized what I had and before I knew it I had a crowd of angry parents below me. I was trapped on the ladder with a giant box and had it not been for a wandering employee, I might not have made it off that thing alive. I swear they were gonna start shaking me and my bounty loose. Talk about insanity. But I got my prize, the kid was ecstatic Christmas morning (with Santa of course...my endeavors gained me no favor) and I vowed never to attempt such a feat again. Black Friday...appropriate name...could turn into your funeral if you're not careful.

So you can go shoping on your way to work...lol..wa(e in line at 3 am in the cold..not for me what if you got to go to the bathroom than you losse your place in line .and if you don't go you know the reast of the story...lol...but the ladie is right..why not make the store 24 hours..no lines..I would not stand in line 2 hours t save a 20..

It's a marketing ploy that has turned into a nightmare! Manners go out the window today! Not that society had much to work with!

oh I realize that..it's like a zoo, brings out the really ugly in most. The hours? Why the hours? People can become jerks at 7, 8 or 9.
So a marketing ploy gone ugly...hummmm, had no idea was so simple.
I feel so silly now.. slaphead
The initial idea was ok....get 10 or 20 TV's and sell them at cost. Now the big corporations, i.e. Wal Mart, Target... gouge prices and open way earlier. How you close a place that is open 24 hours is beyond me, but Wally World has their sale merchandise wrapped in thin black plastic. They also got an employee trampled to death because of it in New York last year.
some stores are NOT open 24/7.

the black wrap isn't to hide the merchandise, it's so that we know what is the 5-11 sale merchandise versus the stuff for the all-day event. it lets the stagers know that those pallets have to be quick-dropped in the open.

Well, everyone - I got up at 3AM - out the door at 3:45AM and at the mall at 4:15AM. Had a ball!!! I am always working on Black Friday and only had one occasion to shop that day and, I admit, it was a nightmare! But, last year, I shopped at the dollar store for my grandchildren and lived with my daughter as I could not afford to do more or live on my own.. This year, I am on my own and meeting the bills but still not much left over.. SOOOO - off to shop at 4AM and, I have to admit, I loved it!! My daughter woosed out on me and did not meet me until 7AM and I only hit 2 stores but got most of everything that I wanted and came home tired but pleased that I could give my grandchildren a good Christmas from Grandma this year and a feeling of satisfaction - I did it by myself! Even if it meant getting up at 3AM...We'll see what next year brings...Ho Ho HO
