so what would be acceptable for someone to say then?

I think if you know a person it is okay to say but for complete strangers just not mention religious trumpet....laugh laugh .

so in other words....no well wishes??? Like I said...I don't celebrate the holidays as religious and I only have get togethers for the family. So, therefore, I should be offended by Season Greetings of any kind....correct?

Sorry but well wishes of any kind aren't offensive to me and I chose to say as I please. If someone is offended by my well wishes, then that is on them

just my 2 cents

ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm

we say....Merry Christmas... hehehe

Say it to Christians like you : there are more non Christians in this world than Christians .

I think people are too sensitive on this. If someone wishes me well according to their beliefs, the point is that they are wishing me well, not what their beliefs are. I dont see a reason in the world to be offended if a jewish person tells me HAPPY HANUKKAH, just because I do not share their religious beliefs,,the operative word is HAPPY.

Are you saying it is okay if people say to you : happy hanukkah, happy eid, happy....etc ?.

i dont know what eid is but the happy part would cause me to be fine with the sentiment.

So, would you be happy if someone wished you a happy dia de los muertos?? laugh

Wow, poor person that considers hearing certain greetings as offensive. Must live in a sheltered world. We are in America, we are a free Country. I'm not offended I will just say Merry Christmas in return.

I'm more offended by the moron that calls others moron for their beliefs. What a dumb statement and clearly is offensive and it easily offended by just about everything.

I might think it quite odd for someone to wish me a happy birthday on their birthday,, that is true. But I still would not be the least bit OFFENDED and I think that was the topic of debate. If it is offensive to wish someone a happy day based upon your celebration. I think some seem to be offended far too easily..but I respect their right to define it for themselves and AFTER they express to me that they are offended I would stop that behavior towards them

Case in point, I say honey and sweety quite a bit as punctuation during conversation, it is a habit of sorts because of the environment I was raised in(honey and sweety were terms of endearment that I heard often). I wouldnt THINK this should offend anyone, but wouldnt ya know it,, I have had some tell me that it did. At that point is when I made the effort not to speak to them that way but I continue to speak in the way that is reasonable and comfortable to me unless or until someone asks me to do otherwise .

Christmas is your celebration and not theirs and therefore it is offensive . The same if it is your wedding anniversary you can not go and tell people happy anniversary . I see no difference here .

Well you're not in America so what does it matter to you what we do here? So when I go to the store and they tell me happy holidays am I going to get all bent out of shape over something so trivial? No, I will respond with a Merry Christmas for that is what I believe. I don't get offended when I hear Happy Hanukah, my aunt changed her religion and is now Jewish. I'm not offended in the least. This super sensitivity is absurd.

I think we are missing my point in the OP.

It wasn't about how we greet others during the holidays.

I was making a point in this PC wourld we live that all stores say Happy Holidays yet Best Buy printing "Happy Eid Al-Adha" on the front page of their Thanksgiving circular is ok.

Are we ok with a generic greeting for most religions but not for Muslims?
