Ive noticed for a long time now that in England there is no media coverage of the black, indian, etc in the army. are they not fighting in the same war is it the same in america?

I have never heard of that for the military here.

so there getting the same amount of attention there then
|

as far as I know. Whether it's good care or not....they get the same.
Why wouldn't they over there? Is there some kind of law there or something? I am only an AF brat and never served myself, but I've never heard of that. They all get the same care...good, crappy, whatever |

Well the war is not about race. I have seen the news reports where any and all races are included. I have never seen a report where it mentions how many of any race are in any war.

Military is referred to as troops or soldiers not by color no matter where or what branch they are within.

same care ? i think thats good if same care means the same amount of publicity. (im not sure what same care means) they just dont here but nobody says anything

The British have a military? J/K. In the U.S., MOST of us, including the media (at least around where I am) don't really pay attention to race. Especially when it comes to our people in Iraq. We support every single one of them equally and just hope they'll all come home soon and safe.

I didn't notice the word "media" and thought we were talking about health care coverage But I stand by what Kristi said...they are a troop, unit, soldiers. They do get media coverage regardless. I see coverage of soldiers that died or hurt, etc all the time |

when you NEVER see anyone of colour or no mixing in the media coverage then it becomes frustrating. there are black and indian etc mothers whose sons have done brave things out there saved a fellow soldier etc why dont they get noticed

Exactly what kind of media coverage are you referring to? The only mention I see of the troops on the news is when someone is killed or receives a commendation. It's never good to see someone killed, so that shouldn't be a bad thing; I can't imagine someone saying "Oh gee, I wish there were more blacks and indians getting killed over there so they can be on the news." As for the blacks and indians getting commendations, maybe there aren't enough of them in high ranks there to receive any? Basically, I'm confused about what kind of coverage you're wanting to see? Please enlighten me.

I'm a news buff with many stations. And I have never seen problems with media coverage, based on race, or color.I'm so proud of anyone thats in any branch of service. My prayers are with all...with a safe return home, where ever that maybe.

Race goes away once you join,
You don't see black, indian, white....what you DO see is the uniform. Navy everyone is blue Army everyone is green Air force-blue again Marine everyones just crazy! There is a brotherhood that extends beyond race in the military. Why care so much about it? or are you looking for it? publicity for the troops? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?!?!? The only publicity they normally get are when someone's dead are you asking for more soldiers to die so you can 'see' some different races on t.v? I've been in 6years I was stationed in D.C. where they publicly display everything...you know what it took for them to put the troops on t.v there? Reagans funeral....and just briefly The race comments both for and against are getting old. |

Ted, hello! I miss the pic of your face melting.. hehehe
PO~And I never noticed special coverage for race. Damn, I thought it was hard pressed to get positive media coverage on anything. I hear stories about local soldiers on the news, and all they say is where they lived. I've never heard colour mentioned. Why should they? Do they serve only that portion of their country? |

You know what else they don't show in the media.. Gays in the military, I mean why not?

in this country you don't see anyone of colour in the media, not just because they died but because there getting praise for the things that they have done. things are obviously different in the USA but here they are still the same as they were 50 60 years ago. but people here don't actually mention it. we have a memorial here and not 1 person of colour is on there. how do you think people feel here when there sons or daughters are not acknowledged like that
