in this country you don't see anyone of colour in the media, not just because they died but because there getting praise for the things that they have done. things are obviously different in the USA but here they are still the same as they were 50 60 years ago. but people here don't actually mention it. we have a memorial here and not 1 person of colour is on there. how do you think people feel here when there sons or daughters are not acknowledged like that

Are you talking about the Thorne War memorial?

Because if you are that list those who died in WWI and WWII yes the views on race were different back then, sad history but true...or is this a new memorial?

I agree with issac on this. im an ARMY brat. and i never saw their color other than green. to me they are our troops. i have been many pictures and videos of all colors from around the world fights it is just that their BDUs are all the same and you cant really tell anymore if they are US or British, or other. my brother even has pictures of the men he served with and i had to go back and really look to see what color they were. I saw green.

Hello Bridgetjones27
The British Army has made no distinction as to race, creed or colour for the past twenty five years. The only codicil to this is the Ghurka Regt.
The British Army officer corps certainly has no bar to any serving soldier whether black, yellow or pink with polka dots. A soldier is a soldier and the Army, Navy, Air Force and RMC is completely indifferent to the issues of race. I served with Aussies, Kiwis and Jamaican troops in Northern Ireland. Black soldiers have no memorial specifically dedicated to them being black. White soldiers have no memorial specifically dedicated to them. Read between the lines and you will see that The Kings African Rifles had many black soldiers, The New Zealand Army has dedications to the Maori Batt. To imply that the black soldier deserves any more than the white soldier simply demonstrates that you have absolutely no idea of the nature of war nor of the men and women who serve.

Here's a little reading for you....You want a picture of a lot more diversity here's one reason you are not going to find it..

"Data obtained by The Independent shows that the Army is losing ethnic minority recruits nearly 50 per cent faster than the rest of the services. In 2007, the last year for which complete figures are available, the Army lost 6.3 per cent of its black and Asian soldiers, compared to an average of 4.5 per cent.

The latest monthly figures show that the outflow of ethnic minority personnel across all services has risen to 5.2 per cent of all recruits.

One Whitehall defence source said: "Ethnic minority soldiers leaving the forces at a faster rate than others is not the direction we want to be heading in. There has been a big push in recruiting from our black and Asian communities and currently we have the lowest number of people leaving for four years. But it does not look good if we cannot persuade our minority recruits to stay."

Military chiefs can point with some justification to success in recruiting from the minorities. The proportion of non-white personnel in the Army, the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force has risen from 3.5 per cent in 2005 to 6.3 per cent last year. The Army now has 9 per cent of its intake from minorities – comfortably above its target of 5 per cent. The Navy and the Air Force lag behind with 2.7 per cent and 2.3 per cent respectively."

Oh and here's another picture...tell your friend to grab a fork

have i ever said we deserve more than the others no have i said we should be included yes i also want to say it is obvious to anyone that were not its not just me who is saying it either. its also obvious that there is distinction between the races and there always will be. in America maybe things are different but i have done my research and its obvious to see the problems. 2 pics were found of any black soldier woo hoo i was so wrong i dont know what i was thinking.

A soldier is a soldier. The fact that he is an Aussie or a Jamaican is immaterial. The fact that he is white or black is immaterial. He serves. That is what is important, except for the codicils on specialist regiments.

A white soldier decides not to reup, a black soldier decides not to reup. An Aussie soldier decides not to reup a Jamaican soldier decides not to reup.It is a matter of personal choice. One man sees advantages and opportunities and another does not. It is not about race it is about sdetermining what is the best course of action for one's individual life. To suggest anything else is unjust and unbecoming.

before I say what I'm going to here's another picture

This is of the training going on in Afghanistan.....

Here's what you're not seeing....

currently the army says they have 9% minorities they don't break that down by black, asian, indian, spanish or any other...but let's be conservative for a moment. let's say there is only 9 races included in that 'minority' catorgory...and assuming that it's all split equally that would mean that 1% of the UK's army would be black....meaning 1 in every 100 soldiers is black....I haven't seen a photo anywhere of 100 soldiers together...but the ones I did post were of maybe 20-30 soldiers...yet there is still black soldiers in these photos...you think the photos would be even rarer...but they are not...so this tells me one thing...they are getting their press..and the journalist are going out of the way to make it so. jmo

There are a lot of soldiers in a lot of Soldier towns throughout the UK. Go and look and ask the soldier if he cares if his comrade is black or pink. Ask him if he cares that the monuments do not specifically mention whether a soldier is black or white. Grow up and ....enough ...this just reeks of your bigotry... Goodnight.
