Eons ago when the Iron Lady (a.k.a Margaret Thatcher) was in power she supposedly pushed the global warming theory to justify the closing of the coal mines.......

And here in America, the government keeps pushing the issue because it will enable them to reach even deeper into our pockets and gain even more control of our lives.

Not true at all.

Tell me how they are going to get more control from us for this issue? Paying to keep the planet healthier should be an expense we are all invested in.

Forcing us to buy what they want us to buy, for one.

Did ya forget that a few communities outlawed incandescent light bulbs?? What about having to replace them with mercury laden flourescent bulbs?? Think that's really good for the environment when they need to be disposed of??

What about the new restrictions the government put on an already heavily burdened auto industry with excessively high mileage standards??

What about the screaming they did for Ethanol production before they took into consideration what would happen to the price of corn??

You go right ahead and let them take more of your money for something that most people would do voluntarily. Keep telling yourself it's ok for them to dictate things in your daily life.

The Socialists will thank you.

Very funny on the socialist thing.noway

Most of what you listed doesn't effect everyone and can be worked out with a little more effort on some parts.

Not making your point of control or cost.

It still hasn't been verified yet so might be jumping the gun anyway.

OMG!!! Before the whole Health Care issue started to warm up, the government had started making noise about creating a ban on incandescent bulbs nationwide.

They are already wanting everyone to drive electric/hybrid cars...not taking into account that batteries aren't worth a crap in freezing weather. Think that wouldn't affect someone like me when they start taxing me for not owning one??

These things will effect everyone. Period.

When you change stuff to make things more environmentally friendly it is supposed effect everyone. It isn't big enough as far as I am concerned.

Ok. But what about when all those bulbs start building up and leaking mercury all over the landfills??

Will it be " big " enough for you then??

Mercury is in nature. It will be a matter of too much mercury and we had this problem before, if it ever got resolved.

There will always be mistakes made by imperfect humans no matter what. But we still need to be trying to stop ourselves from poisoning what we need to live.

Wow.

Ok. Let me make sure I have this right.

Mercury is already a natural product....so adding a whole crapload more of it via busted fluorescent light bulbs buried in landfills is no big deal.

If that's the case, then you have one seriously screwed up idea of " poisoning the planet ".

..we can't say that we're not upsetting the balance of nature, surely one must be kidding themselves if they think that we are not, there are plenty of ways that we are, every time we build roads or houses we clear land that contain the homes of countless animals, every time an oil tanker has a spill countless oceanic life dies even down to the smallest plankton

..surely over time with the continuation of our inability to live in harmony with the planet will bring about some change..

..the only ones that knew how important it was to maintain harmony were the native americans..and well ..

..you can't simply justify what we do by the fact that it is already occuring in nature due to the fact that they are "natural" occurences and not man made..seems like a lame excuse..

..indeed mankind is a disease on this planet a cancer if you will we ravage and change and never restore nor replce in the quantities that we take away..i mean as if a concrete building is better for our enviroment versus a grove of trees..

if it isn't done to better the planet than it can only be worsening it..

..the next time you see a deer lying dead on the side of the road remind yourself how much better for the planet that road was ..rather than the NATURAL order of things

Did you see the mistake part of my post???

This always seems to be a problem with the environmental stuff. We always seem to be balancing the good with the bad. I guess life is like that.

So how bad will it be and are the benefits more important is the question, right?

I don't know if we ever solved the mercury problem we had from when I was young. Did we?

I'm glad I'm an anarchist. Funny, some of you are surprised that the government lied to you...and others still adamant that it doesn't really matter.

...Don't know about you, but I don't really like the idea of anyone lying to me regardless of their position.

The government has been lying for decades, Marilyn Monroe anyone? Maybe a healthy dash of WMD's? Can I get Killer Bees? Aids only affects black people? Drugs are bad, but not pharmaceuticals (Oxycodone should do for now)...decades people, from simple issues to larger scale problems. Led like sheep to the slaughter...

All I know for sure is, stuff is changing.

As for the exposed emails, that's all fluff and nonsense, neither proving or disproving anything. The researchers who have published about global warming and related things are NOT all a part of the emails in question. If you are a "global warming is a liberal plot" person, or just a person who is always suspicious of science claims in the news, you can fool yourself into thinking these are meaningful.

The more I've heard of global warming, the more confusing things get. I understand that it DOESN'T mean EVERYTHING gets warmer, and I know enough about how the earth's weather systems work to know why.
How much HAS mankind affected it? How much CAN we affect it the other way? Do we really want to affect it? I don't really know.
I DO know that SOME of the proposals to mitigate against global warming ARE GOOD IDEAS IN AND OF THEMSELVES, so I will support them even if they are being supported by someone else I DON'T like.

But the email story is meaningless.
