I am a fashion whore. A clothes horse, fop or whatever you'd like to call it. the last few years I've been doing most of my shopping in used clothing stores. Usually they don't have anything good. But, once in a while, you find something so cool at such a great price you feel like you've just scored a home run.

Last week I found a tweed blazer that fit me perfectly for just $15.

Anyone else do this?

Ususally the only way I get used clothing is to find someone wearing something I like, then beating them down, stripping them of it and then taking it to the cleaners. Of course, I think the guy at the dry cleaning place knows this because sometimes things there get "lost."

I hear that, Scroundrel, as far as pants go. I ONLY wear dark Dickie (or close) work pants and black Levi's jeans in 30x32. It's hard enough finding them new, let alone used!

I have had to pay as much as $200 for jeans because I needed some and no one else had my size. If I can get to JC Penny within a day or so of them getting their shipment I can usually find a pair or two. If not I have to wait or spend the big bucks.

it's next to impossible for me to find jeans

I wear 30x34 boot cut and stores only stock the popular sizes (short and round)

I buy all my tee shirts and most of my jeans and jackets in thrift stores. I could care less about fashion...

Ewww...bad idea!

Unless the used clothing is sterilized you can pick up ticks and other tiny bugs that embed themselves in the fibers. It's a good idea to wash your used clothing in boiling water before using.

Yep. I only wear boots, so depending on which number Levi I feel like at the time, sometimes I have to go with the 34 length. REALLY hard to find most of the time! Apparantly it's true when they say Americans are too fat. those of us who don't gain weight are in trouble. lol

I love thrift stores and yard sales..haven't bought anything new for sooo long and it bothers me not! I have never been a slave to fashion..
I'd rather spend my money on books and music than clothes.

I'm only 6'3" and I have a hell of a time finding levi's. As I said I have a 36" inseam. My waist is also 36" and the last time I bought a pair it was me and two store clerks looking for half an hour to find a single pair. They weren't my favorite cut, but I still bought them because I needed paints.

Chinos and cargos? Forget about it. I wear black ones for my work and I have to deal with the shorter legs and showing my socks.

I can't travel to NJ just to buy paints and I don't have a credit or debt card. So, no online shopping for me.

I like yard sales, and thrift shops also. Not only do I find clothes but great things for my home, and many times new, with tags...yankee jar candles for 2$ , i'll buy them all rather then $25.E/Bay is great to shop if your looking for small items for your hope also.

We Have freecycle here also in WI.I'm sure all states have them posted. You do have to be fast to reply.Everything offered is free. They don't allow you to post for sale items.Great place to find a pet(homeless animal)usually because of someone moving and there new place doesn't allow pets. And a great way to keep animals out of shelters.

Dead Men's Clothes.......yes I wear them.

My old friend Mikie taught me how to shop at "El Segundo"
and since the recent economic downturn it has become chic to shop at used clothing store.
His new term is "Recessionista" for us budget conscious shoppers.

Best buy....very nice London Fog overcoat with liner. $15.00

Oh I love out little thrift store, I have found designer clothing that sells in the hundreds for as little as 5 bucks.

In my town we are very elite summer folks along with the rest of us regular people. The elite come in with complete wardrobes for any weather instead of taking it back they donate.

I love thrift store shopping.

ok, i do not want to come off shallow, so please do not misread...

i admire people that go to the thrift stores, recycle etc, but i just can't bring myself to go buy 2nd hand clothing. i just can't.
maybe because i have not seen any "good ones" or what to look for etc. i have tried couple of times...but i just can't do it....there is just something about knowing that someone else has worn it before me. i would rather ( and i do) go without, or buy no name brands than to pay for something someone else had on....

You're right-my ex wore 3636 Levi's and I could only find them at J.C. Penney in the big and tall man section.
