There are more people, so naturally there will be more anger...law of average. Also, social acceptablility plays a part in it.

There are a lot of people out there without direction or purpose. 100 years ago, if you were born to a farmer, you worked the farm. If you were born to a baker, you baked. If you were a rogue and did not want to follow your family trade, you tied your cloths up on a stick and hit the road in search of some thing different.

I am not sure if people are angrier these days, but being able to post in forums, from a computer, not face to face, people think they can say whatever they want. However they want. No matter how angry it is.

I tend to agree here,A few months ago I questioned what happen values, ethics, and morals. We all have them, but we don't use them to benifit our lives.Seems now to many lash out with anger, when someone doesn't agree.

Are Americans angrier today than in the past? Or do we simply have fewer inhibitions about acting out in public and no longer let anger seethe beneath the surface? Some say increasing narcissism today makes us upset when we don't get what we want...really? Three related questions...take your pick or opine on all three...

There are more outlets...essentially more stages on which to preach. Not any more angry I think then yester-year...we don't riot or throw molotov cocktails anymore. Although those were fun days.smokin

I think we are more angry, mostly because we have fewer coping and people skills taught to us or promoted in our communities.

More like we are used to being raised with such, but the immigrants don't want to assimilate to our civilized society, and the crimes against us keep mounting, without any relief in sight, since our govt won't enforce the border laws. Those from other countries have different cultures and customs that fly right in the face of those held by the average American. And for the most part, they are considered ugly, backward, and many times just plain unsanitary. Being repeatedly told that I should accept the unacceptable and show tolerance and compassion to those who do not give it, is why push comes to shove, when enough is enough.

I think the anger would be there without the issue of immigrants. The culture has slowly melded into an egocentric one where the majority dont feel a concern or obligation to their community or their neighbor. Cell phones and computers allow everyone to be their own GOD and pretty much ignore human contact and disregard human concern. We have lost a sense of caring about the WE and sadly become a nation of caring only about the ME (and my pocket)..

I disagree. Alothough it isn't ONLY immigrants, they are a significant part of the problem. I understand that there are those who are protected from this invasion, but those of us who aren't, we don't even need to read the news to find out how much of our federal budgets that are being stolen. We have them close enough, in real life, to have already been suffering directly from their criminal culture. Have stolen about $75K from me alone, not including all the rat bait, home repairs, landscaping repairs etc I have had to pay for since they moved in. Now, gonna tell me why I shouldn't be pissed as hell and want them gone?
And, when having this going on outside your door, wouldn't that tend to have you staying inside, cranking the ipod so you didn't have to listen to all of their SCREAMING babies, that they leave out in the yard for hours unattended (probably why these little kids are screaming so much) in yards filled with nothing but trash and health and safety hazards?

Gator "You opinion about "crimes against us keep mounting" is not supported by any evidence"
If you want to find out what a lie that is, tell you the same thing I told a poster who claimed these people do not get welfare, food stamps etc. Come on by, I will SHOW you the proof of how far off your remarks are.
"and show an incredible intolerance with comments like, "And for the most part, they are considered ugly, backward, and many times just plain unsanitary." Good luck...you appear to need it."
Look over my fence, all you need to know that was an out of line attack for stating the truth.

Bonny, you assume that these doctors etc coming from the third world countries are COMPETENT. BIG mistake. Had a doc from eastern Europe tell me point blank that she knew nothing about what I had scheduled the appt for, since they didn't even teach that at the medical school she had graduated from. Idiot next door, got his degree in construction in Mexico, and when he did the remodeling on his home here in Washington he didn't install any insulation, and now has 3 homes flooding because he collapsed the drainage system. The furnace uses gas, and even the guy from the gas company, telling them that the thing was malfunctioning and had to be fixed, was completely blown off, so we have that stuff pumping out of a pipe 10' from our windows 24/7.

Shall I go on?

As far as the good old days, I AM old enough to remember them, they did exist, and would really love to have them back.

Bonny "the mother proudly stated " Well, he's not used to saying please and thank you at home, why should he have to say it here?"............. "
Part of the good old days was that something like that sure wouldn't have happened. NON PARENTS are a group I actually DO HATE. Non assimilating immigrants just tick me off, big difference.

My two cents...

Yes, on all three. Through the generations, philosophies have changed. Many, many moons ago your value as a person was judged by the contribution you made to your community. Capitalism by definition inspires people to work for profit, not substinence. This leads to the concept of greed. The philosophy changed from doing what's best for the village to doing what's best for the clan, or extended family. Then it was the nuclear family...mom, dad, and kids. Your value as a man was in how well you supported your wife and kids. My grandparents and parents generation were like this.

Somewhere along the way, the goal for a person became self sufficiency, which is how I was raised. In the past 40 years, the nuclear family has for the most part been eliminated and we're taught in schools, thru the media, and from the time we're born to work hard to be all YOU (singular) can be. ("An army of one"...is that really the new motto?) What happened to "All for one and one for all", "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country?", and other similar sayings. Ask most kids what success is and they say wealth. It's portrayed everywhere, espcially with the technological advances, the more you get, the better you are. WTF happened?

And yup, there's the anger. For me it's not about what I don't have, it's about not being able to do anything about the above decline of morality. The drive to individualism has also meant that you are but one voice in dissent, tough to be heard and even harder to make a difference. In the old days, you spoke as a village, a clan, a family, a couple even...more voices in unison, slowly being drowned out by the increasing masses that no longer care about what you have to say. The concept of "We, the people" seems to have perished and been replaced with a big fat "I". As in "I have the right to do what ever the hell I want and f-you if you don't like it!" In govt, in society, in the media. It's so disheartening.

Of course, this opinion has an approximate value of about two cents! Take it for what it's worth.

oops wrong post. sorry

I think that the hateful people in this country have been activated and it is showing.

The "normal" folks are frustrated and struggling but not angry or hatefilled. Or at least that is what I see.

It does seem that more and more people are rude in pubilc and no one says anything. I'm not sure why... how about that man that slapped someone else's child? He went overboard. I do know that when my son was crying out in public, I left. I was taught it was rude to keep a crying child in a public place.

Just an observation...even in the smaller MIngle world...there seems to be a lot (imprecise term, I know) of angry posts. People react with vehemence. Someone says something...and often in the same minute a strongly worded attack is added to the thread. Curiously...and somewhat ironically...there seems even to be anger within some of the posts on this topic...ABOUT anger! But other topics, still being posted now, on "abortion" and "Mingling at work" - among others - draw angry fire! Day to day it does seem people are willing to express anger more...and perhaps over issues and situations that once would have not raised tempers. We humans are forever interesting! laugh

Gator~

We used to have quite a few venting threads, you know as in what are your ten pet peeves and what irritates you most while driving... etc. I wonder if possibly we don't vent enough, or if we all just complain rather than solving? I'm guilty of it myself at times. I'm sure we all are. Anger doesn't get me anywhere, except to bed early as my muscles get all tight and then my back hurts. laugh

..i think it has alot to do with the fact that both parents have to work in order to get by,mom's who are the very keystone of a family are no longer stay at home mom,but rather work force mom who has to deal with the daily drudgery like the fathers..

..and the home life suffers because of it some kids left with no parent or guardian at times when both work allow for the unscrupulous to enter into their kids lives..

..dinners are no longer a family affair and communication around the supper table is either stifled or non existent..

.unguarded technology doesnt help either, altho some may see certain items as being a keeping up with the jones situation truth is one has to keep up with technology or be left behind..like some of us baby boomers have..

....personally ..it seems that both parents now carry alot of stress in trying to get by these days which cant be good for any relationship...

..while sex has become as easy as ordering a hamburger at the drive thru window at mcdonalds..without the emotional attachments we as humans need..

..there are so many variables that have led up to the demise of the family ..that one would be hard pressed to point at just one..

...not to mention dead beat dads/mothers,so many children grow up without the proper guidance and nurturing that it eventually tears at the very fabric of our existence..

from a tiny seed
a flower will bloom
given the proper sunlight
and enough water...
