well, thats a lovely idea, but most women my age don,t like a guy
bending over backwards for her, they don,t like flowers and teddy bears,
nor a guy walking up to her house carrying chocolates and flowers, she,d
think you were a child molester.

hi.. I agree.. I like my doors being held open and the heavy grocery bag
taken from my arms. In return..I feel respect is one of the greatest
gifts you can give to another.

Tulip, I think under that hard shell is a big soft heart.
Think you are only a ***** when you feel defensive.
Tough lady, sure; but only because you have to be.

I open doors for all lady's it's something i grew up with , I even drive
the car pay for meals ect,i believe men are here to take care of the
women it's just the way it is and they take care of us by keeping us on
the straight and narrow..you have to give to get you don't give you
don't get...they claim to be so independent but when the dvd player
breaks..can you fix it  but when i need to get a stain out of
my white shirt...can you fix it it's all good ,we can't live without one
another is my point so be good to each other and all will be fine
happy

Wow, just got back from the office and I see this is still the hot topic
of the day. Looks like the old polite ways are winning hands down.
Simple tenderness and kindness should be a part of everyone's basic way
of living. It has never hurt me to open a door, help a stranger in
distress, or give someone flowers without having an agenda behind it.

Jess, I am a man, I enjoy doing those little things that everyone has
mentioned, and if I see a woman with a flat tire on the side of the
road, I WILL stop to change it for her. Independence has nothing to do
with it, nothing at all. Militant feminism has done nothing for the
cause of women. Your post is seething with hidden anger and distrust for
men, perhaps stemming from your past specific personal experiences
rather than a generalized view? Using your methodology, tell me, what do
women want from men?

*************************************************

Zap, I am by my genetic make up a woman...

I too will stop for any or all, as I said in my post, "I will even
change your tyre, hold open the door, and pull out a chair for you."

I see this separation of the sexes, through old, ingrained behaviour, as
a less than, and a way of keeping disempowered...

I also stated "I have respect for all", irrespective for gender.

However, your gender, as a male, does not hold you responsible to have
to behave in certain ways, you are not held, obligated to hold open a
door for me, you choose it, one human being to another.

Militant feminism? Fascinating, I am not sure how you arrive at that
from my post, when I state gender is irrelevant, perhaps not in as many
words, but with the flavour of my post.

'Seething hidden anger and distrust for men', how do arrive at that?

For one moment, if everyone, sat back, and just read my post, with no
gender attached to it, would I still be tarred and feathered with
labels???

Or would I have cheers from women?

I cannot speak for all women, and I do not live within your culture, so
I cannot speak for all women, and reply to your question, what do ALL
women want from men...it would be extremely arrogant of me to try...

I can only speak for me.

This PERSON, irrespective of her gender, wants to be equal, in the
giving and recieving of respect, and to be capable of what I can do, and
when I am not, be offered the hand of support, not because of my gender,
but because of my humanity.

This is not an attack on masculinity, never was, nor will be, my intent,
but rather an expression, a PERSONAL OPINION, as one human, to others.

Being old-fashioned or new age, does not belittle any gender or choose
one over the other. I love to have the door opened for me, flowers, a
chair given up for me, or a hand from a man when I need it. But in the
new age, I hope that man can accept the same from me, without feeling
that I am demeaning him in any way. It is a show of caring by either
person. If the relationship is not give and take and 50/50, then one
person could feel like the are not appreciated or they are being taken
advantage of. For me, you can open the door, walk on the streetside of
the sidewalk, etc, but If I want to do it for you, then just accept it.

I applaud all people who follow their own path. I think glass ceilings
and barriers to equal access for anyone are wrong. If I open a door for
a woman or for a man like Mr. Crash it means nothing but kindness.
Sorry but I just don't get the connection to anything having to do with
dis-empowerment. I can't take power from you by my actions, you must
give it up. Take responsibility for yourself and you will find no
barriers to anything.
