Topic: Are people more friendly in the south? | |

I have also seen people smack their kids upside the head with their bible in the south...so I'm thinking that isn't very polite. the parent is trying to help the child see Jesus.... |

I have traveled from coast to coast and border to border. The most friendly people I have found lived in New York City. They were great!

Absolutely not.K;let's cast aside that painting of broad strokes shall we?.I was born & raised in Mass where I have spent the majority of my life. However I've rented homes in Lorain,Ohio & Lakewood,Co. and I can tell U beyond a shadow of a doubt that this southern friendliness presumably exceeds the northern parts is nothing but a misconception. In regards to your comment of deep south I have found no difference in hospitality.I was stationed at Ft.Polk,LA for a year so I have enough experience, age & wisdom to draw from.I have been liked, disliked, accepted, & shunned equally on both sides of my beloved country.U are very young & apparently have much to learn & experience.Live,Love & Learn.Godspeed!Cy

hmm, depends upon how one defines 'friendly'. They definitely seem to carry themselves with better manners... except the bigots (lol) |

I guess it proves how much difference peoples personal experiences make on their opinions. I have probably traveled to 40 of the fifty states in my lifetime. for my personal experience, I honestly found manners to be a bigger deal to southerners. As far as a good slap to the head,, never did me a BIT of harm. Never expected my parents to be polite to me when I was being naughty.

This particular incident I remember well was a 4 or 5 year old boy making car noises while playing with his little toy car in a laundry mat..guess he got to loud for mommy. Naughty little boy..playing and laughing so loud.. deserves a whack in the head with gods word for sure... |

Well East coast girls are hip
I really dig those styles they wear And the Southern girls with the way they talk They knock me out when I'm down there The Mid-West farmer's daughters really make you feel alright And the Northern girls with the way they kiss They keep their boyfriends warm at night The West coast has the sunshine And the girls all get so tanned I dig a french bikini on Hawaii island Dolls by a palm tree in the sand I been all around this great big world And I seen all kinds of girls Yeah, but I couldn't wait to get back in the states Back to the cutest girls in the world |

If the child had been given previous warnings and still not minding,,,seems reasonable. We were always given choices, really ended up helping me accept that principle as adult. Life is about choices and the lessons and consequences (or rewards) which result. |

Hmmm, originally from Massachusetts, when we went to Louisiana we were greeted by some pulling my hair, taunting us because of our accent, spitting on my mother. How's that for hospitality? Now I know they are not all like that but that's my experience in the deep south.

But my experience OVERALL is that manners is put higher up on the priorities there than other regions of the country. |

Last time I was in Alabamy, the Heart of Dixie, it was just as though the Civil War had just ended. Very strange indeed.
