I'm interested to know why you personally feel the way you do.

Quite easily I am all for it after working with predators for the last 20 some years I am totally for it. Most crimes people don't rehabilitate, so therefore why should we keep sending them back on teh street to do the same crime or one more horrific the next time around.

Also, I believe for some crimes there should be an express lane... No appeals etc...

So definately for it.

Well, we are certainly not God to to commit somebody's life to an end, and really, people should pay for their crimes.
I say, a long-life imprisonment would do better than fine to anyone who's done some serious crime!
Imagine denying common rights to those who don't deserve them (I mean, if you wanna be part of the society, you gotta suit yourself to that society). Why giving rights to those who simply abuse them.
Simply like this (and kind of fictional): In the Harry Potter series, Azkaban's the place where not even the toughest criminal wants to end up in, so if we had a place like that (maybe Guantanamo), criminals would think twice before committing murder or something of the like.
Instead of ending somebody's life, they should pay their debts with their own flesh and sweat, their own suffering and fear.
Kind of cruel, but using this method in a mentally way, it can do things to you. Attacking the mind seems more effective than attacking the body.
In a hot topic like this, there's not right or wrong, only two different opinions about handling criminals and their actions.

I am against it simply because I think human life is precious and I believe noone has the right to determine who deserves to live or die.

I definitely can understand your point of view...of course.

Honestly though, would you feel the same if someone you loved were the victim? If someone else decided they felt they had the right to determine how and when they would die? I know it's not something any of us wants to think about -- but that is where my confusion regarding it is. If someone brutally attacked/raped/tortued/killed someone I love dearly, it's very difficult to imagine that a life behind bars is proper punishment for that. It really is...

Good question, Dawn.
And I'll attempt to answer it.

I could give the easy answer that if someone takes a life,
then it's only just that they should forfeit their own.
Which in of itself is true. But it goes beyond that for me.

When you kill someone, the person killed isn't the only victim.
That person most likely had a family.
A husband, a wife, children, a mother, a father, grandparents,
brothers, sisters, ect. ect.

Not to mention the victims close friends. These people are all
victims of a killer's crime who may never fully recover from
the loss.

The one thing that does annoy me to no end is how long these
savages sit on death row.

I understand that we need to be completely certain of their guilt.
I know that since the use of DNA, there have been some convicted
killers that were later proven innocent.

I say give 'em two appeals. If they can't prove their innocence
by then, that should be it. And if DNA has already proven them
guilty, then there should be no waiting.

I mean, how long does the action take? Every state could wipeout
the "appeal exhausted & DNA proven" guilty in less than a month.

I hope I've answered your question, Dawn.

I am against any taking of human life that is intentional and pre planned.

Pro death penalty, if they are proven guilty without doubt!

Ah, if only that was the standard everyone followed! Sadly, its only a 'reasonable' doubt.

I have seen to much corruption in my life to feel comfortable leaving a decision like this up to our justice system.

The Christians have a great saying for this: "Hate the sin, love the sinner". This is high standard to live up to, but its a good one. The people who can live up to this standard in the face of such violence against their loved ones have my highest respect.

The fact that I am human, and might suffer from the immorality of personally seeking vengeance against such murderer speaks only of my character, and not of the ethics behind the death penalty.

Its like asking if stealing is wrong based on whether a person would ever want to steal.

I'm against it because it's not meted out fairly.

For it... in a similar manner to what they did to the real victim.

Electrocution, lethal injection, firing squad is just so easy, and relatively painless.

I am doing a pros/cons paper on Capital Punishment for one of my college classes.

It's not difficult to find information regarding either
side - for or against it...

Just thought I'd take a survey on here - find out the opinions of anyone who wishes to share them.

Thanks for any/all feedback given.

For it.

An eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth... That's what I'd like to say, however, it's so hard to prove people guilty or innocent these days so i'm not 100% sure..

providing there's DNA evidence, witnesses, and/or confessions, i say go ahead and kill them.

i'm not so much looking at it as a way to deter crime, but rather as one less piece of crap getting released back into society.

In my past, I have known some professional crooks.
The death penalty is all that they feared. It is a good deterant for crime, but only if used. You are prob. to young to remember when the feds. said it was illegeal. There were articles about prison guards that quit their jobs, due to inmates telling them, they were going to be killed. Inmates said that they were already in for life, so why not kill some more. Am sure 1 case was in florida. Guy quit & lost his pension, but wanted to se his grandkids.

I will take this all 1 step further. Leagalize pot & prostitution, tax them very high. Then ALL SEX & DRUG crimes are a hanging offense. Make them public & see the crime rates go down. Hangman's platform on every county square, will make alot of people think twice.

Opinion is totally mine, but think about it.
