When you see people who come to forums and have a consistent pattern of just randomly posting bullcrap and never really contributing anything that appears real or honest, or even having any funny or shock value, what is the point? Obviously not everyone is going to agree on what is funny or valuable information, but when it's basically just barely readable nonsense, are they actually making a point?

Is it a cry for help?
Is it just to be annoying?
Does it mean anything at all?

I often wonder if people have a fear of putting their real thoughts into type or if they just really enjoy being nonsensical.

HEY! This is the age of twitter, people just feel a need to be PUBLIC about any and everything.

It's like in real life when some people talk just to hear themselves; some people type out stupid **** just to see their words in print. It's not necessarily a cry for help, just an indicator of immaturity and the "look at me! look at me!" mentality.

Does everything in here have to have a point to it? Some of the things I see posted I would never share in a public forum. Then there are things I do post that I'm sure offends some..or is just stupid to some.
Some days I'm more serious, some days I'm not. I would think that would go for most of us..
Many people many perspectives.
How entertaining would this place be if everyone in here felt the exact same way on the exact same days...and therefore posted the exact same way?

I for one would be bored to death...I like the diversity and even the silliness.

Oh I agree...the silliness is one of the reasons I keep coming back. The stuff I'm talking about is (how can I describe this) fantasy? It's a pattern of bullcrap (for lack of a better word), wherein you can tell that the poster has absolutely no real desire to even begin to have real interaction with people. It's not even an online persona, it almost comes off as a mental problem, but just barely? I'm so not conveying what I want to here....but sometimes i just wonder what their point is.

I see this in the forums for my local town too (topix has forums for all cities) where people in anonymous mode will post this way.

Immaturity does seem to be a part of it.

Oh, and here it is........

shtick also schtick or shtik (shtk)
n. Slang
1. A characteristic attribute, talent, or trait that is helpful in securing recognition or attention: waiters in tropical attire are part of the restaurant's shtick.
2. An entertainment routine or gimmick.

Once upon a time.... Nah doesn't seem right. There once was a girl from Nantucket.....Crap, I'm not good at this.

Any ideas on beginning a blather?bigsmile

such is the nature of internet forums.

everyone has the freedom to say whatever they want to... ranging from the inanest of drivel to the profoundest of life philosophies.

the point is the same for everyone. self-expression.

Hummm it just goes to show what you consider as a "schtick" I consider as nothing to contribute. So it seems to each there own. We all have different opinions when others randomly post comments like that on a thread. Myself I have never found those type of statements amusing. But some do and think they are being funny or cute which is kewl.

Myself when ones don't have anything to contribute I just ignore them for at times they will actually have something to say worthwhile....

If they create threads that I do not care for I by pass them for even if I do not think it is worth answering to someone else will.

That is what makes the forums all the wide variety of answers and questions. There is always someone that will find them amusing, funny or their random post appropriate where others do not .bigsmile
