I have talked to a number of women who tell me this is the hottest movie they have ever seen. It's called "The Secretary." Any thoughts?

It's the story of a young woman that takes a job as a secretary. But, when she makes a mistake her boss spanks her. There's much more to the plot of course. I just don't want to spoil it for anyone that's not seen it.

Every time this film comes up in a conversation women start talking about how hot it is. The last time I rented it the girl at the counter (a very cute redhead) said it's one of her favorite movies. Every woman I know that has seen it feel this way.

Her boss is played by James Spader if that's any help.

interesting-- a Psychologist's dream!

The woman had issues with self hatred and punishment-

and her boss (played awesomely by James Spader) had

some issues himself with control, punishment, ego etc......

Ah okay, still never heard of it. Probably wouldn't like it, since spanking doesn't excite me. Interesting though.....

Neither do I, Calleigh ... Spankin' or spanker ... noway

Not even close to a personal turn on in my own personal life, in fact ... rather a SOLID turn~off!

BUT! That said, this movie draws ya in on this inner journey ... shades shades

It captivates, intoxicates ... and ... leaves ya throbbin' ...

SO dials up the inner heat ... it shocks one that is SO certifiably w/out the kinks presented ... SO sensual ... mmmmmmmmm ...

It most def takes ya somewhere new ... MASTERFUL!!! ... drinker

I even bought it, LOVE this film ... and I'm an EXTREMELY picky, dedicated cinephile! ...

And, no, still completely resilient to such a fetish am I ... it had no lasting effect or interest outside of the viewing ... laugh

I'll have a go ...

We, as the audience, are given voyeuristic, front~row, VIP status into the deeply personal, intimate inner-mind's heart of the ABSOLUTE impassioned desire of 2 incredibly flawed beings for one another.

We know, better than they perhaps, of their fragility and their incredibly well~matched souls. We long for them to consummate the obvious, their once in a lifetime, perfect match w/ one another.

They take us so deeply inside their inner sanctum of incredibly controlled, yet boundless, desire for one another? We get viscerally caught up in the tempestuousness of their lust, as if it had become our own. Yet, we TOO have no real control here.

The heat reaches us, despite our own fantasies held outside their own. We watch w/ clutched heart's and bated breath, desperate that they not overlook this maddening sexual jackpot, and part.

We thrill to the command they hold over one another's bridled passions; and we are brought to our own climax, as they not only at last consummate this intense sensual, sexual longing ... but peak at the elation of their unforeseen wedding and life together, forever ... (!?)

It takes you on a kinesthetic journey of the senses, and fulfills the hope that no one is so fringe or damaged as to be unpairable. Indeed, the opposite ... they fulfill the dream that the perfect match is most deserved, and awaits us all at the most unexpected turns.

Are you asking what is it about the movie because you don't understand why women like it?

Yes, that is what I am asking. Although, Dancere explained it very well I think.

I found the film interesting. But, I thought the James Spader Character was rather unsavoury. Creepy is a good word for it. He was ashamed of his desires and that, in it's self give off a creepy vibe. And the girl is the type of woman I'd avoid as well. She was like an open wound, begging for attention, but to timid to ask for what she really needs.

In other words, I understand the voyeurism aspect. But, I was unable to identify with any of the characters.

It didn't occur to me at the time how popular the film is among women.

To add to the discussion ...

Keep thinkin' of this question throughout the day ... As I was shocked this film turned me on to SUCH an extent too! ... More each time that I see it!

The near unrequited, heady solid LUST ...

That's the throb factor for us girls I'm thinkin' ... (Not the men?)

It comes SO near to not happenin' ... that 'sweet torture' of the unrequited ...

Such as MANY of one's DEEPEST fantasies w/ near strangers that are 'perfect crushes' do ...

I will tell you that I was beside myself when he 'releases' himself on her skirt, as if the film had somewhat empowered me w/ release of the very same sexual tension and frustration it was building inside me also ...

ALWAYS a powerful feeling, when a woman 'has that' from a man ... ALWAYS!

How is that for an overly honest confession? Hey, we are all adults and sexual beings, hopefully!?

... Great question!
