Now that I am not working for awhile I am very conscience of every cent I spend. a few days ago I bought cheap tea thinking oh what the heck it's all the same. WRONG, it is bitter and just plain nasty. Tea is my morning ritual and the start of my day...will remedy this mistake today.
So I am wondering what you have bought and saved on that was fine and what you have bought and saved on that was bad and ends up costing more when you replace it? |

I heard that cheap tea from China has melamine in it. Better go have your stomach pumped.

Isn't that frustrating? It's happened to me more than once. The last thing I bought was a bottle of $4 wine to replace my usual $15 bottle to save money. It was undrinkable.

Well myself when it comes to the certain brands of food I like I don't skimp on it now the one thing I did do was instead of bag salad I went to the head of lettuce instead and will do it also with the veggies in the bags I will buy the whole broccoli & cauliflower. For it does save quiet a bit. But I'm picky on what I eat if it is a brand I have always used I will not settle for less. Sorry if it don't taste as good I'm not gonna get the cheaper brand....

Cheaper is definitely not always better! I've had to cut so much out here lately including my cable tv/internet ( I use my blackberry as my modem!) that I don't know what else I could possibly give up!

You get what you pay for! This holds true on so many things!

Most of the 'generic' or store brands have been pretty good. However when it comes to favorites, I'll never buy the off brand. There is no replacement for Peanut Butter Cap'n Crunch.

I usually stick to my brand names favorites too. Just tea said 'orange and black pekoe' (which is the blend i drink daily) so I thought it was worth a try! I do use inexpensive shampoo and cream rinse and have no trouble with it. I think some substitutes are as good as their more expensive counter parts...so was wondering what else works and doesn't based on others experience.
Thanks for responding all! |

nope, I learned a long time ago. Just spend the money and get quality
it's like buying cheap tools. You can use em a couple times and they break and you spend twice as much replacing them as you would have just buying a quality tool in the first place I just read an interesting article on that very thing. I the 40's and 50's the things we bought, appliances, furniture, tools, were all made by crafstmen and were superior quality and would last forever. Often furniture and tools were handed down to heirs and lasted their entire lives also In the 60's and 70's we began a trend to disposable things. Mass produced cheap crap. Furniture from IKEA and cheap tools etc. Now the quality of most every thing we buy is cheap and crappy. Disposable |

I just left a job where I sold among other things, major appliances - several top brands. Inside the industry it is common knowledge which might last for ten - twelve years (that is very good anymore!)and which you are lucky to get five out of! It doesn't always matter which are the most expensive either, although, a word of advice to anyone looking to replace a major appliance...spend the extra few bucks! |

Hey now I tried Arbor Mist (Exotic Fruits) and it is awesome and it's less then half the cost of what I was drinking.... so it does happen once in a while and yeah it is around $4 |
