Topic: Liberal or Conservative? | |
---|---|
That's one thing that confuses me, who are those that are calling this administration fascists? Is that the extreme right or the extreme left? Damn I hate politics. Both, it just depends on which party is in office in the majority at any given time |

Forgive me for being dense but I still don't get it. Maybe because I don't know what left and right is anymore, hell maybe I never did.
When I watch my favorite cable educational channels and see the incredible things people are coming up with to better our world, I get so excited by the positive and thoughtful ways people come up with to make a difference. Then I turn the channel and get the Glen Becks and Rush's and radical religious channels complaining about the world being evil and headed to the end times... I know I didn't explain that right, but oh well.. Off to listen to the President on remarks on the financial crisis. |

also liberalism and conservatism have evolved from their classical definition and have become knee jerk connotative labels that bear little resemblance to their original definitions according to the classical definition I would be a liberal. But liberals (and conservatives) don't have a lot in common with the classical definition That was really sort of the point in terms of the thread...classic definition vs knee-jerk connotation. |

People will assign a label to just about anything but that doesn't mean it/you/he/she/whatever necessarily fits. When I watch/listen/read the "news," I toss out whatever I think is biased/extremist from either point of view and try to flesh out some kind of truth with what's left. But, that's pretty subjective as everyone will come at what's offered with their own unique perspective and opinion. What I think is biased, someone else will take as the gospel truth. So, what is truth? What do the labels really mean? I think everyone will have their own point of view. |

In a perfect world we the people would all be constitutionaly conservative(as it is our document with the purpose of protecting our rights from being taken away by the federal government) and socially speaking there would be a degree of difference from state to state and so on.

A long time ago somebody wrote a book “Suicide of the West” and some where in the back there is a test, a long test that will tell you who and what you are.

all I know is that I am conservative in my own life but liberal minded enough to know everyone is different and has a right to their opinions and beliefs

I must not be a PC cuz I cant figure out how to get a pic in this reply box. Stupid me. But I was shocked. That test shows me to be slightly right and slightly libertarian????? Most of the questions were too subjective. I mean these decisions have to be made on a situational basis. I reserve the right to change my mind at any moment. Dont I??

I don't like to label myself as anything. Though, I'm with Tanya, I tend to be more liberal socially and more conservative financially. I think most people are far more "middle" than anything else, but it's our society which essentially forces them to label themselves as one thing or another. Then, we're all stuck with the negative connotations the label brings with it. Plus, the older I get, the less I realize I "know." My point of view is ever evolving on many things because the more I learn, the more information I have and the more I realize that nothing in this world is as black and white as we would like it to be. Isn't it funny how most of us would feel that we are " in the middle " on a lot of stuff....but yet our " Representatives " have gotten to the point where very few of them are anywhere NEAR the middle?? Doesn't seem like we are being represented very well now does it? |

Most of the questions were too subjective. I mean these decisions have to be made on a situational basis. I reserve the right to change my mind at any moment. Dont I?? You just have to enter it as an image. 1. Copy the url of the image, easiest way is to 'right' click on the image itself that you want to post, choose 'properties', in the properties box, hylight and copy the whole address of the image. Now in your reply to this thread, you would create and img tag and then right click in the center of the image tags and paste the address there. Here.. Ill place an image below and show you.. To see exactly how I did it, Just click on 'Quote' for this post and you will see how it's done in the reply box when you post. Notice how I placed the address of the graphic in the center of the tags. You will only see the tags when you click on quote for this post. HOpe that helps. I'm tired now so I hope the hell I explained that easy enough. |

Some of the questions were difficult to answer in just one way or the other. Some of them I am not sure should even be answered by someone that isn't familiar with the question. Such as the question regarding gays.
How can one who can't even relate to a gay person or who was brought up with an extreme bias or prejudice of them even answer those honestly, and if they answered them due to a bias gained from religious indoctrination or from societal fears can one really say that that is their honest personal view? Im tired so I might be totally missing the point, feel free to enlighten me. For you history geniuses, go ahead, I can take it. I see that I am a liberal but how bad is the diagnosis.. LOL Am I a Commie socialist ? or what? I'm afraid these labels go over my head. So this doesn't really help me much. I think the only reason I want to understand all this better is because I want to know why it's so bad to be a liberal, that's all I seem to hear since I started reading this forum and paying attention to people like Rush and Beck and Fox. |
