Teaching third period 11th grade U.S. History and government during the first attack. In the teachers lounge watching TV during the second attack.
Several of my students lost loved ones that day. Living in NY and having that happen was a surreal and scary experience. It also turned into a unique teaching moment. |

I was at work, fairly close to an airport ( MIA ) myself. Some of us had radios and we had access to email. The girl behind me said OMG, a plane crashed into the TOWERS.We thought it was an accident. Then her friend emailed her pictures a few minutes later and we all basically just stood up and listened to our radios and checked our emails.Pictures came in, we looked in awe and sadness at the great loss of lives and what happened.
Needless to say, alot of calls workwise werent taken, work wasnt being focused on much at all.We all just lost apart of ourselves during this time.As Im sure many others did as well. I could still tell you to this day what I was wearing, I still have it, shoes and all. And I can still feel the loss, even though I myself have not lost anyone, it is a great loss to others and America itself. Peace be with those that became ANGELS, and to those that had the honor of knowing them. |

It was a day pretty much like all of the rest. You shower, shave and go to work. Then it gets your attention. Curious at first. Then, the tower collapsed. What the hell happened? People shown jumping from the towers. What the hell happened? Smoke and debris. New York. This is America. Lives lost. I never knew them. What the hell happened?

I was at work and we watched the second plane hit on the video and it was like walking around in shock all day. We were government offices so we went on high alert but we could not close so we all had to keep working. We all got to watch as they collapsed too, what horror it was.
That day and the day I watched the Columbine massacre happen live on the tv are two of the worst days of my life. Watching those bloody kids jump and fall from the windows in that school with all the police on the outside not entering because they couldn't figure out where the shooters were and you could hear the shots over the live camera as more and more went off. Just pure horror. That is all you can say about things like that. I cry to this day over it. |

It was probably my second week of middle school, and everyone was just sitting in silence in my classroom. No one my age really understood what was happening, but we were all afraid of something.

I woke up at home.....turned the tv on and went on with getting ready for work. Turned on the radio too and wasnt really listening when I finally realized there was no music or cartoons on for my son so I actually looked at the tv and watched in horror at what was happening.
I went to work that day.......everyone was worried, scared, dumbfounded, shocked. It was like everyone no matter who you were.......came together as one! |

I was in my history class planning my birthday party when all of a sudden my teacher told us all to shut the F up and put on the tv and we sat there and watched it... Seeing the smoke and all the people screaming and running.. God I can still see the images and my heart still breaks and tears still come to my eyes...

On this morning I was in the lobby of an auto body shop waiting for my car to be done when the news of what had just happened started on the lobby T.V. The whole store stopped to watch.

I was getting ready for work. It was a beautiful day where i was. And I saw the second plane hit the tower. It was horrible to watch and knowing all those ppl where in there. Seemed like the whole world got quiet. I will NEVER forget that day and still pray for those lost and those who have lost!

I was sleeping in that morning. The phone rang waking me up from a somber sleep & it was my best GF telling me "they're trying to kill us". She was hysterical. I finally got her calmed down enough for her to tell me to turn on the TV. Then in a split second I realized what happened & why she couldn't talk. We sat & watched the news together & watched the second plane hit the tower. I'll never forget the sick feeling that came over me in those first moments.

I was at work when OKC happened, I think after that, I pretty much started getting numb to the idea that tragedies cant or wont happen in the US
I dont remember what I was doing during Columbine I remember 9/11 was a relatives birthday, I was driving a cab, preparing to go celebrate that night with them the dispatcher kept alerting us that we could pick up our kids from school if we wished(we lived in Ohio, but people were still panicking), I kept working, I listened to the radio reports , I ended my shift and went home as usual to take care of my family,,,,fix the dinner, clean,,,etc,,, |

it was just as i was leaving work to come, i got in turned on the tv about 5 mins before the second tower got hit.
i think the worst thing about seeing it was the fact it was live and you could see the people jumping, that was the most heart crushing thing ive ever seen. R.I.P. the 2,985 people who lost their lives that day |
