Is it wrong to be told by your teacher to go out and kill bugs and bring them into school for a class project?

No...its science. As long as they eat them afterward.

HA HA!!!

I'd probably look for one that is already dead. But, ewe! I wouldn't want to bring a dead bug to school anyway! noway

hmmmm, i don't think i'd like that at all as part of my kids' curriculum.

even when we're in a forest or conservation area, i don't like them breaking branches and/up uprooting flowers. i'd be totally against them having to kill bugs.

when we were in science class in high school, the frogs and rats came to the lab already dead and that was okay, but i like my kids to respect nature and let what can live, live.

Yea

All my kids little projects were already packed in a smelly jar

They were never asked to go kill them!

I've not heard of that one yet.laugh

My child had an opposite experience though. My child was at scout camp and one of leaders got mad at my child for killing a spider.

what kind of project? An art project or a science?

One of my friend's son got sent home to make a bug collection... where he has to go find, kill, and store the bugs in the freezer until the project is due.
I'm against this and would not let my daughter participate. noway First of all, what if she gets bitten by something she's trying to kill?
AND I have always taught her to have a general respect for all life and all living creatures. I never allowed her to go kill bugs for the pure "fun" of killing things.

I don't kill anything unless it's on me, biting me, or going to bite me laugh

When I was a kid I used to take a wiffle ball bat and swing at lightning bugs. They made a beautiful light as they were soaring through the air.......smokin

I had to do that in my biology class. I only found a few spiders, that was it. I accepted the F i was given.

What exactly did she have to catch?

What exactly did she have to catch?
as many different types of bugs as possible.

I guess I could see the concern. If the child went after a poisonous bug and didn't know it, the child could get sick. Or went after a bug that they didn't know the child had an allergy to and then had a life threatening reaction.

Ahhhh to be cute as a bugs butt.

Living in bug tussle.

Circling the back porch light.

Hiding in corners waiting to bite.
