Topic: PIctures that lie | |
---|---|
I was surprised on the couple of dates I've been on to be congratulated on looking like my profile picture. One woman related a couple of horror stories, the best of which was a nice guy she met online with a handsome trim profile picture. In person it proved that not only was the picture out of date he had become morbidly obese, with an obnoxious personality to boot.
Questioned about this, uh, disconnect between image and reality, he became quite defensive and said he had put on a couple of pounds, so what? And, I like this, right after the meeting, as a preemptive strike, he emailed her and said there wasn't enough "chemistry" there for him to see her again. I'm kind of surprised to hear that guys would have this kind of vanity. I always thought that no matter how fat, bald, flatulent were were, with long shanks of hair growing out our back and ears that could be braided in ponytails, that we would have the innocent self-absorption to be sure that we were still devastatingly attractive to the opposite sex. So how common is it for people (men and women) to have profile pictures that don't tell the truth? Give me your most amusing/horrifying story. I am going to take the best anecdotes, pretend they are my own and present myself as much more interesting than I really am at parties. peter |

You haven't been in the forums much uh?
No really, not everyone has their "real" photo up. I didn't for a long time. This is the internet, not that all are, but most will be and can be who they "want" to be. Not who they are. |

WHY DO WOMEN FEEL THEY HAVE TO EXPOSE THEMSELEVES ON HERE TO GET ATTENTION AND THE MEN ARE THE SAME WAY. ITS NOT HAVING MUCH RESPECT FOR YOURSELF. I DON'T NEED TOO THEY CAN TAKE ME AS I AM OR MOVE ALONG.

Haha! Funny post, OP! Why do people do this? Some are just playing games...it's a power trip to enliven their otherwise dreary existence...typing madly away in Mommy's basement...they usually have no intentions of meeting anyone, so they figure they can get away with it...

Pictures can be deceiving and yes I have had something like this happen to me in the past as well.... I try to keep my pictures as updated as possible for that reason.
When I meet someone I always ask if I was what they were expecting because I would hate to think I am misrepresenting myself.... met 2 guys in the last month and both told me I was better looking in person |

<--- took this about a week ago. I have gotten to the point where I refuse to talk to people without pics. I don't think it's vain or selfish to at least want to know what the person looks like I'm speaking to. And sorry but a description is just to vague. You can't make the most horrifying beast sound attractive in wording a description.
I have had people lie, send fake photos or very old ones. I don't get it. It's not like the truth won't ever come out. In the end, it's not that he weighed a lil more than I thought, had a lil less hair, or maybe a few inches shorter. It's that he lied to me. That's what pisses me off. |

Oh and it's not the pictures that lie... it's the people that lie The pictures at least tell the truth. The people on the other hand... well not so much.

I won't tell the entire story, but let's just say that the term "a few extra pounds," can be interpretted rather loosely.

Well, frankly, I just don't see any point in lying in/about your pics. People ARE going to figure it out. Unless of course, they are just here for fun and have no intention of meeting anyone. Unless they figure their sparkling conversation and wit is going to make someone forget.
Some of my pics are older (2 years or so), some are newer, some aren't even me (I think we can figure that out). One mildly amusing story here, though. For a while, I had a picture up of a pair of bloody lips. One guy totally called me out when he realized I wasn't really a vampire. |
