The general public got it wrong I think.

"Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)" is a traditional Jamaican folk song,[1] the best-known version of which was sung by Harry Belafonte. The song is the best-known example of calypso music. It is a song from the point of view of dock workers working the night shift loading bananas onto ships. Daylight has come, the shift is over and they want their work to be counted up so that they can go home (this is the meaning of the lyric "Come, Mr. Tally Man, tally me banana/ Daylight come and me wanna go home.")

What a silly thread. I started this because I work nights and was about to get off work. But, I do like calypso music.
